Exactly, while I had rather see State get a different coach, we will probably not get a well established coach. State will probably have to do the same thing UNC did and that is settle for the best that they can get. 99% of the people had never heard of Dykes before the stories broke and 99% of the people had never heard of Fedora before UNC hired him. They both coach for high powered offenses but neither one will ever be that successful because neither one knows how to coach defense or hire good defensive cordinators. If either one ever figures out that defenses wins championships, then they might build a successful program.

State is talking 2-3 million and you need to check your facts. There are a lot of coaches at big time schools that are not making over 3 million a year and Clemson's OC makes less than 2 million, a few hundred thousand dollars less.

Bubba hasn't found cr*p yet. Fedora won with players he didn't recruit. He won with a team returnimg a great rb, a very good qb and other good players that he didn't have anything to do with. He won with a team that was expected to win and even your Bubba Gump replacement coach last year could have won with this year. A great player like Gio can make any coach look good just like TOB at BC. Without Gio, UNC would have been 500 at best. He won at S Miss with players mainly recruited by the former coach and look at S miss this year, the coach may not be good, but Fedora did not recruit and leave any good players at S Miss when he left. He may turn out to be a good coach but so far he hasn't proven anything except he can win with a lot of talented players that other coaches have recruited and a great rb that could win 2-3 games a year for any coach. UNC settled for Fedora just like State will probably settle for a mid-major coach or a cordinator because thats the best either one of them could have got. We will see in 2-3 years.

Ha ha ha. I wasn't going to go there, TBK:) For games like those, there's always Depends.

Most people don't feel this way, but I prefer a track meet where the scores look more like basketball scores, like the Clemson/State and GT/UNC games, than defensive battles where the final is something like 7-6. I mean, forget leaving your seat - if you sneezed, you'd miss a TD in those games. In the Clemson game, every time it looked like State was down and out, they'd score a TD - or three - and they were right back in that game.

Why obsess about a loss? I don't play the games, and I understand this team is going to have really good nights, and really bad nights. Such is the problem with youth. Maybe you Red Ragers can learn how to be pragmatic about the potential of your team from us.

Well, she certainly did a great job with the basketball coaching...so personally, I don't think it's going to come back to bite them. They needed a change. The program was stagnate. O'Brian was not a great recruiter. I would love to see them get someone in there who is passionate about the team and their job...not just standing on the sidelines with their head down the entire time or just trying to coast into overtime instead of attempting to win.

I know what you mean. I think I'd have had to pee in my britches if I was at that UNC-GT game. No way you could leave your seat in THAT game! Same was true for the State-Clemson game. Imagine THAT game if State was running the Air Raid offense! We scored 48 points with our conservative offense!

EDIT: And yes, I do realize my comment about "peeing in my britches" left me wide open to jokes about State students peeing in the stands at Carter-Finley. ;)

I find that hard to believe (that dollar amount, I mean). Sure, we COULD bring in a big name with big name money. I just don't think State is willing to make that kind of commitment in football.

Plus, from what I understand, the NCSU BoT is meeting today. After that, it goes to the UNC BoG. And we all know that bunch is heavily weighted in favor of Carolina. Who believes, even if we offered and he accepted, that the UNC BoG would ALLOW State to hire a Nick Saban??? Would never happen, even if Yow went bat-crrap crazy and tried to pull that off.

  • TruthBKnown Banned Again01 Nov 28, 2012

Kinda like the way Carolina held on to Butch until the Blue Zone fundraising was completed? Sometimes you hire a new coach to keep excitement going, and sometimes you hang onto one just long enough to accomplish the same thing.

In the end, we're ALL getting rooked! :(

  • tgcmisc Nov 28, 2012

SFN is reporting that Morris from Clemson is still in the mix. Don't know how accurate or if Dykes already has a lock.

Several folks have bragged about how we went to bowls. I took my MH to the PapaJohn.com bowl. I called ESPN and spoke to the folks there. FULL TIME SECURITY....so I went. After the game was over, all the drunks started maurading and kicking in grills of cars and other sportsmanlike stuff. We got Birmingham PD involved and they calmed things down. They told us to LEAVE and NOT spend the night....even though ESPN said there would be security. Security clocked out when the game was over.

As to Orlando....WOW, that would be a great deal....you drive into the stadium through the equivalent of South Street in Raleigh. The ladies of the evening start work early and hit up cars, with FAMILIES inside and ask if their services are needed and flash various part of their worn out and overweight bodies.

I went to Orlando TWICE....it happened TWICE. I would take Charlotte anytime, but that would be a rerun.

Most NCSU folks are NOT going to pop for a road trip. The voters took care of that FOUR years ago and showed their stupidity again earlier this month. All the movement in the conferences are to pay off debts run un in 2008 or so...except UNC....their debt is recent.

Don't know WHO we will get as coach. Surprise me if we spend MORE than $2 - 2.5 Million (excluding a buyout of a new coach). Probably in the $1.5 - 2 range. Dykes is making $700K base (you can NOT add in bonuses....) We could double that and he would also have his bonus potential TREBLED. Google his contract....it is out there. It was extended a year ago. He got a raise of $250K to move it UP to $700K. His buyout was alse REDUCED (Joe Schad - ESPN). His bonus amounts are much less than TOB or Mark Gottfried.

Debbie Yow will pick the candidate that can restore the program and also not compromise academics and discipline. Time of of the essence as this is a seller's mark

  • Sandbar33 Nov 28, 2012

You have to look at the conference you are in and your opponents. You don't see many successful spread offenses in the SEC because the SEC powerhouses can recruit BIG TIME defensive players along with BIG TIME offensive players. Teams like Alabama, LSU, Florida, South Carolina and Georgia have recruiting resources to burn. State CAN recruit players to run Dykes's offense and it doesn't take 5 star recruits all over the field. Look at who State plays....Teams like Wake, BC, Maryland (before they leave) wont be able to outscore this offense. Neither can Georgia Tech, Miami, Virginia or Duke and if Va Tech doesn't improve neither can they. Clemson would be a shootout which leaves FSU as the only team right now that can put a defense on the field to slow down Dyke's offense period. Texas A&M runs a very similar offense and they beat Alabama....Dykes came within a 2 point coversion of pushing A&M to overtime this year. The amazing thing is that they were down by 5 touchdowns in that game.

  • mtnmama Nov 28, 2012

Sandbar33--- Amen. Holgs has done a tremendous job at WVU, but a young defense caused them a 5 game losing streak. He dud coach them to a big win over Clemson in the Orange Bowl, & their QB was the early Heisman frontrunner. Dykes & Holgorsen are cut from the same cloth. State will be lucky to get him & football will be exciting again!

  • dakg Nov 28, 2012

Dooley at Tenn came from there and it turned out not so good.

Dooley was left a bag of c--p from that ego maniac Lane Kiffin!

  • Sandbar33 Nov 28, 2012

Sonny Dykes will bring in assistants that can "coach" players and recruit which is something that was sorely missing under TOB. We had 2 recievers coaches when I was at Tech.....Coach Dykes coached receievers and Coach Holgerson coached inside recceivers. If he is able to get Tony Franklin to come with him to Raleigh watch out!

My understanding is Yow is willing to pay $5million per year to get the right coach. That much money should get a big name coach. Similar to Les Miles or Sabin

Sounds like Fedora's game plan, AKA "Don't leave your seat, or you might miss a touchdown". After watching the GT/UNC game, I realized Fedora must have meant TD's by the opponent as well:)

Everyone hates a boss that actually gets something done and expects results, and that is exactly what Debbie Yow does. The cold, hard facts are that when Debbie left Maryland they spiraled into the abyss and now have to join the Big10 to get themselves out of debt.

  • BigUNCFan Nov 28, 2012

Probably a good hire but a risk all the same. Dooley at Tenn came from there and it turned out not so good.

You know what was really hilarious? When in the post-game interview your boy Roy apologized for not playing the walk-ons! lololol He said he thought the freshmen could benefit from the playing time! Ya think?

    What do you think?
The walk-ons could have gone in about 5 minutes into the second half?
Was that fair to the walk-ons, not letting them play?
They couldn't have done any worse.. might have made a run.

Going to the Belk Bown or whatever they call it each year is awesome if you prefer mediocrity. Nothing says subpar season like going to Charlotte

  • Sandbar33 Nov 28, 2012

Dykes went 9-3 this year losing to Texas A&M by 2 points, to Utah State in OT ans San Jose State.......

Utah State's only losses were to BYU 6-3 and Wisconsin 16-14.

San Jose State lost to Stanford 20-17 and Utah State

TOB got blown out by Virginia whom La. Tech defeated @ Virginia 44-38. They beat Illinois @ Illinois 52-24

Dykes can coach and his teams are NEVER out of a ballgame. They were down 35-0 against Texas A&M and then 42-7 if I'm not mistaken and came within a 2point conversion of sending that game into OT

  • GridironGuru Nov 28, 2012

We don't have P Rivers in Raleigh any longer...besides when he was there he had to put 45 on the score board every game just for us to win. What QB do we have waiting in the wings that can do that? As for the Belk Bowl it was fantastic.....its an outstanding venue with great lodging all around you that's within walking distance to the stadium. Have you ever been to Legion Field or that other dumpster in Orlando??? The bowl director got beat up in the parking lot at Legion Field during the PaPa John's.com bowl!!

I agree....with that being said we are far better off with TOB than we are with Dykes. This would clearly be a step up for his coaching resume but this doesn't move our program in the direction that Yow said she wanted to go. As far as his ability to recruit Texas that's very diminished now giving the fact that Texas Tech is now in the SEC along with TCU playing against SEC schools. The Texas recruits can stay close to home and have more chances to play against SEC talent!
