It's starting to sound like a pattern.
Unions killed the manufacturing base in this country.
Unions have put the airlines in bankruptcy several times.
The Unions killed Hostess who makes twinkies.
Now Kroger is closing union stores because they aren't profitable.

I worked at Winn-Dixie in high school in Greensboro before they went bankrupt. Stores like Food Lion and Winn Dixie did well in poorer, urban, usually violent, areas of towns because they were low priced, no frills, and very basic. While stores like Harris Teetor and Lowes do well in more upscale areas.
Kroger just shouldn't have opened up stores on New Bern and MLK drive. It's that simple.

Wrong. The New Bern Ave was built in 1993, when they abandoned the shopping center to the east on New Bern. The '93 Kroger shared a parking lot with the K-Mart that closed years ago. It did not have any signage on New Bern Ave and was hidden behind the empty former Golden Corral. And it was between the old Tower Food Lion and the disaster of a Wal-Mart supercenter just to the east.
The 2002 MLK store 'replaced' the New Bern Winn-Dixie. They left a lot of product in bodega-like shipping carboard, for better or worse. The next nearest grocery stores are all Food Lions -- near the Poole Road and Rock Quarry Road beltline exits, Raleigh Blvd near St. Augs, and to the west, Lake Wheeler or Gorman/Avent Ferry.
Wakefield closed because of the nearby Food Lion, Harris Teeter, and Wal-Marts. This closing leaves a food desert.

Not high to like compared to Harris Teeter e.g.

story says they will help them relocate to other stores, so maybe none. Unless of course some think it's better to get handouts than work.
