Do these places not have a checks and balances system?

You'd think because they're sanctioned by the state, the state would require that.

That is the real problem. Yes, she was wrong, but the fact she got by with it for so long indicates that the State doesn't audit diddly squat. What she did is bad, but the State not catching it for 10 years is even worse.

All I want to say is if these offices are run by private contractors, WTH are they not OPEN ON WEEKENDS therefore competitive?

The fee structure is mandated by the state, so they cannot "compete" with other agencies in that manner.

due to it being a state office, they have to communicate with the state dmv computers, even the voice system doesn't give info after state hours at dmv

This lady has been under contract for 13 years, long before ARRA existed. I'm not against publicizing their religious preference, though.

You know they should just let her go. I am sure she needed the money and they have plenty of it. We live in the age of Obama no one should be held accountable and if they have the money, she deserved it.

How come so many people on the right keep sying private industry can do the work of government so much better and more efficiently. Privatize, Privatize, Privatize! Then, when a private company gets caught stealing or underperforming, the same group gripes that these private businesses should not be handling "government" work. Of course, we all know that private companies will always act on behalf of the public "ARRA Funding, women and minorities preferred status, and country of origin" not withstanding. Of course, I'm not sure how ARRA got into storchheim's post. This lady has been under contract for 13 years, long before ARRA existed. I'm not against publicizing their religious preference, though.

  • storchheim Nov 13, 7:13 p.m.

Whenever a private company is caught ripping off the taxpayers, its ARRA Funding, "women and minorities preferred" status, and country of origin should be disclosed.

"Why is DMV subcontracting to some private owner/business its important functions?! Is this not a predictable, known security risk for people to be able to issue DRIVER'S LICENSES and take money for doing so?"

Oh, don't worry, the DMV will recommend they have additional training so they understand they're not supposed to do this.

"This is just another form of CORRUPTION AND COVER UP....it is all over the country....IF people would just open up their eyes and know when to check on things....so many people are able to get by with so much....especially in the government run agencies...."

This is the result of Affirmative Action. Corruption and incompetence is rampant throughout all government agencies and will continue to get worse.

  • dollibug Nov 13, 6:45 p.m.

And it took how long for someone to actually *catch the crook*?

This should tell *someone something*....NO ONE is actually paying attention to anything....I guess no one reviews what is going on with the government....but I think we all know this is true.

I guess this past election actually answers this question...you think?

I wonder what other kinds of corruption is going on. Last year I got a ticket in the mail from Orange County New Jersey. They said I ran a toll booth up there. The license plate pictured came back to my name and address. But 1) IT WAS ON THE BACK OF A LEXUS (plate was registered to a truck I wrecked) and 2) I had the receipt showing that I had turned it in to the license plate agency.

So, it looks like someone is selling tags that get turned in instead of returning them for destruction (they are supposed to go back to NCCIW to be destroyed)

I reported it to DMV Enforcement, but they seem to have just ignored it.

I guess the do-nothing government job wan't good enough. This poor woman deserves more.

  • bjraper Nov 13, 2:50 p.m.

This is just one of many areas of State Government that I hope our new Governor Pat McCory will take charge of and restore some accountability to State government. This person stole money from the State Of North Carolina Tax Payers. She should be punished to the full extent of the law. There needs to be more done in all areas of state government to crack down on the people and even people in political positions who are stealing from our State and be brought to justice. I certainly hope we see a strong and asserted effort by our new governor to allow the attorney general to go after these people and put their tail in jail.

"They DONT issue drivers licenses. You buy a license plate from these type of crooks."

Yeah, and crooks (inmates) make the license plates in the first place! I think we need to go back to chain gangs for these criminals.

How much is she accused of embezzling? Any further details?

The lack of information is somewhat concerning ..

  • Coolbreeze Nov 13, 2:06 p.m.

Sounds like DMV needs to monitor their contracts more closer...Since it took 10 years to figure out they had contracted with a crook.

While she SHOULD spend a little time in prison I'm betting she won't sadly......and she did it for 10 years!!! She needs to pay the money back as well

  • outdoor592000 Nov 13, 1:36 p.m.

They always look so sad..........after they have been caught.

  • charmcclainlovesdogs2 Nov 13, 1:30 p.m.

charged with embezzling money from the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles

Here is another criminal that did not think she would be caught. Prison life will teach her something when she gets there. She did know right from wrong. Now this will give an honest person a job.
