was hurricane Sandy caused by climate change? no.. Easy enough, Greg. Greg so nervous/bugged about "climage change" at the end of the segment he couldn't even look into the camera (all eyes on David and Debra) except when he reached the end and had something to say about a join me on a "web chat" PATHETIC

"scientists who have studied this there whole lives."

Thanks for pointing out who gets the money.

It will be interesting to see what Obama does in his second term about shale oil. Will he ride the "drill babay drill" boom and be a hero for the economy, or kill it and take his place next to Rachel Carlson? His actions will say a lot about what he really believes.

"I will become more concerned when I see ALL of the leftists and enviros get out of the way of projects like Cape Wind. As it is, most of them claim they support this stuff, but there are always enough naysayers to wage a long, drawn out legal battle."

You're right beef. We should stop listening to scientists who have studied this there whole lives. We should start listening to people like beef. What's next beef, the world is flat?

  • beef Nov 13, 5:46 p.m.

Another thing - for all of you who put blind faith in the scientists, you might want to read Eisenhower's farewell address. ALL of it.

Please check the volcanic eruptions that causes climate changes! You will see what causes our weather.

At the 2007 climate conference in Bali there were so many private jets that only the "A" listers got to park on the island. The rest had to disgorge thier passengers and fly elsewhere until the show was over. All this so they could get together and declare that YOU, YOU, John Q USPublic, are to blame for global warming. It is not hard to see why some people are skeptical.

why do all the deniers keep blaming Al? wasnt' that like so last decade? do you still blame bush for obama's terrible mishandling of events?

seriously people. this shouldn't be a political or agenda driven issue. this is about the air we breath, the water we drink, our way of life on this precious but poluted planet.

  • for the people Nov 13, 4:54 p.m.

    @baldchip

i hear you. there are lots of entertainers that deny science. it's tough when that is where folks get their information.

i'm still very mad at al gore. he helped politicize this urgent issue and he deserves much of the criticism he gets.

    i believe the science.

fyi,i don't get my information from rush or rachel.

  • njjeff Nov 13, 4:48 p.m.

Funny how the term 'Global warming' has changed to 'Climate change' I guess it's because the earth is not really warming? Now a swing either way can be blamed on man's terrible carbon footprint. Sorry, not buying into the whole carbon foot print and taxing thing which will lead to Global goverment and wealth redistribution. Nice try Al.

  • for the people Nov 13, 4:48 p.m.

my bogus premise? i get my information from actual numbers. where do you get yours?

  • lrakydarb2 Nov 13, 4:41 p.m.

Fact: 20,000 years ago the top half of North America was covered in several miles of ice.

Fact: There were not too many cars, refridgerators, or "evil" corporations around 20,000 years ago.

Fact: In the 70's, the craze was "global cooling".

Fact: We don't have a clue what happened weather-wise until about 160 years ago when we started keeping records.

Fact: Millions of years ago Canada was a tropical forest. See above comment about cars, corporations, etc. above.

  • Bill Brasky Nov 13, 4:41 p.m.

"Seankelly15 and goodnessgracious2 are certainly getting upset and mean-spirited over anyone questioning Al Gore's global warming invention."

It's not just Al Gore, its a majority of scientists across the world saying this. Not sure how you can refute it.

  • baldchip Nov 13, 4:16 p.m.

I remember the late 70s when the media was talking about colder temps-yup the coming ice age. My-how times change quickly.

Bost-you may be right. However, its hard to grasp when research scientists cook their own research numbers to make them look more impressive for research grants. Let's face it, they are after money! So-when they cook the numbers, we become more skeptical-wouldn't you.

Add to that the absolute craziness of Ozone Al Gore-the world's first climate change billionare with all of his hipocracy. He claims we are burning too much carbon as he jets around the world in a Gulfsream 5. He's crazy-and climate changes biggest mouth!!

I'm not sure but that it's all a hoax, but that's plausable considering the stuff we hear!!

Sandy-coincidence with highs rotating one way and lows rotating the other way and a lunar high tide!! That's just chance coming together!!

  • 4Strikes Nov 13, 4:07 p.m.

"if it's not climat change and by every measure the world is warming rapidly, can we agree its the mother of all coincidence??" bost

To answer that, someone would have to buy into your bogus premise that "by every measure the world it warming rapidly". Parts of the world are warming while other parts of the world are cooling. As it has been since the beginning of time, before it became a political tool.

  • sillywabbitthepatriot Nov 13, 4:02 p.m.

Okay...how LONG did it take G.W. to get Congress to pass a fuel efficienty standards bill on autos??????

    7 years. That's right 7 years.

We could fuel autos on recycled resturant grease but then what would happen to the oil tycoons and Saudis????

Nothing is going to change but more wasteful spending in the long term. Do I think alterations need to be made? Absolutely. Will it ever happen without the government overstepping more than it already has? If the government intervenes, it will not be out of concern for the planet. It will be a result of more $$$$ for cronies and tax revenue to boost their politcal power.

    End of story.

  • godnessgracious2 Nov 13, 3:25 p.m.

Okay, how does the left leaning populace plan to force people to become more responsible for themselves so we can alter climate change?

We could start by joining the rest of the world and sign the Kyoto Protocol.

    Also:

    Stricter efficiency requirements

Investment in alternative energy source innovation

Stricter environmental regulations for 'dirty energy'

    Subsidies for green energy

Perhaps Cap & Trade requirement for carbon emissions

This is not all of course, we will still need a way to slow down deforestation and we will need to somehow address overpopulation.

It's not a perfect plan, but it's a heck of a lot better than pretending there is no problem.

  • for the people Nov 13, 3:22 p.m.

    @sillywabbitthepatriot

instead of this "how does the left leaning populace", how about this "how does the citizens of our planet"?

i believe it's too late to alter man made climate change without some serious geo engineernig that hasn't been invented yet. but if we stop politicizing the climate issue, we'll make a lot more progress.

but to answer your question. there are certainly more informed citizens of our planet that believe in climate change that not. so we need to help those that deny it to just think about it instead of immediately dismissing it due to factors that are not science, turning off rush would help. that would take us in the right direction. then if the democrats would stop spending all our money irresponsibly, we'd have some money left to address this urgent issue. so they need to turn off rachel, that would certainly help.

  • DurhamDevil Nov 13, 3:02 p.m.

No, but all the hot air about "global warming" might...

Look, these guys are just trying to justify their next grant. The Earth used to be much hotter millions of years ago - prior to humans.

What we should be concerned about is global cooling. Regardless of a short term increase in temperatures, the next big change coming our way is another Ice Age and it will likely bring an end to a human-dominated Earth.

What is even more ridiculous than thinking humans are causing it is that humans can stop it. We shouldn't worry about saving the Earth. We need to worry about saving ourselves from ourselves.

  • for the people Nov 13, 2:58 p.m.

@You knew it was nonsense when they had to change names. now it's climate change. What's next? Beware the coming ice age.

if you are able, and i'm hoping you can, try and put aside the extreme politicized message you've been hearing and just think about a few things...

7 billion and growing population on this great planet, we are burning and then burning some more and releasing tremendous amounts of carbon into our atmosphere, the earth is warming at a rate NEVER seen (and we do know this based on, well, science of course) before except when a natural disaster such as a super volcano has erupted or meteor has hit the earth. if it's not humans, what is it?

  • godnessgracious2 Nov 13, 2:20 p.m.

You knew it was nonsense when they had to change names. now it's climate change. What's next? Beware the coming ice age.

They didn't have to change names, the Earth is still getting warmer. but 'Global Warming' does not cover some of the other affects that climate change does. Global warming refers to just the rise in temperatures, but climate change can refer to larger seasonal extremes(colder winters), droughts, floods, sea level rise, etc. This is why it is a better term. Of course you can ignore it all you want. The man upstairs has fitting fates for you deniers. So enjoy your next life, I'm sure this liberal conspiracy won't cause you any trouble when you are scrounging for food scraps in a third world country. Hell is here, and it's getting hot.

  • for the people Nov 13, 1:47 p.m.

conservatives are right about a lot of things, but are very wrong about what is happening to our planet. some should go back and read what they've posted, it's mindboggling to continue reading "the earth has warmed and cooled thousands of times and blah, and blah and blah and blah". seriously? earth minded folks will NEVER change their minds since the issue has been politicized. i always wished the right had claimed this 1st, since the right wing was right on the environment in the beginning.

the cost of climate change will make recessions, depressions, campaign tv ads (smiley), global wars look silly in comparison to the money it will take to 'solve' the problem when at some point the water is lapping that doorstep of the financial district in new york or the white house. the right is all about the money and are making a huge mistake on this issue.

  • godnessgracious2 Nov 13, 1:47 p.m.

  • TooMuchGovt Nov 13, 1:22 p.m.

The earth has gone through many hot and cold periods. So the climate does change. What liberals mean by climate change of course is man-made climate change and they assume that any climate change is bad and must be reversed. Every change helps some folks and hurts others. Liberals have such gigantic egos that they think they can be trusted to choose the winners and losers and wisely spend our tax dollars in their vain efforts to help their chosen winners. I say "Bah, humbug!"

  • godnessgracious2 Nov 13, 12:44 p.m.

The scientific opinion on climate change is that the Earth's climate system is unequivocally warming, and it is more than 90% certain that humans are causing it through activities that increase concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, such as deforestation and burning fossil fuels.

The main conclusions of the IPCC on global warming were the following:

The global average surface temperature has risen 0.6 ± 0.2 °C since the late 19th century, and 0.17 °C per decade in the last 30 years.

"There is new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities", in particular emissions of the greenhouse gases carbon dioxide and methane.

If greenhouse gas emissions continue the warming will also continue, with temperatures projected to increase by 1.4 °C to 5.8 °C between 1990 and 2100. Accompanying this temperature increase will be increases in some types of extreme weather and a projected sea level ris

  • hollylama Nov 13, 12:27 p.m.

Perhaps the argument has to be different for some. The realization we must come to is that the Earth will exist with or without our presence. What we must realize is that the harm we do to the Earth is not actually "affecting" the Earth as much as it does our quality of life. Perhaps when that argument is made more people will realize the deleterious effects of what we're doing to the environment, which keeps us viable.

Conservatives would love to remain in the oil age forever if they could but the fact is that is just not possible. Why not stand on the side of caution and push for a "Manhattan Project" level of commitment to developing clean renewables? It is time for civilization to evolve from type 0 to type 1. It can be done if we commit now. I stand with science, critical thinking, and facts as opposed to what the petroleum and coal industry want me to believe, or what is best to believe to justify my political views.
