Interesting, but here is something the State could do. Eliminate the tax on electricity. Next allow the Utility companies to buy fuel tax free. Between those two things, the utility company would not need an increase and our bills would actually go down -whatelseisnew
Except that since the state has to run a balanced budget the state would then need to replace that tax money- it could only do that with other taxes elsewhere, or cutting services.
Which one do you favor to offset your slightly lower electricity bill?

"Electric rates have to be approved"
Well hopefully these rates WON'T be approved.........

Why isn't anyone discussing gas prices which has doubled in the last few years. Gas companies can raise prices in a moments notice & nobody can do a thing about it. Electric rates have to be approved & everyone raises cane when lights are out. My monthly gas bill to get to work is triple my monthly light bill.
I am not a fan of Duke Energy, but electric rates are the cheapest utility bill for what you get for the money.

the UC accepted quite a bit TOO much from Duke before, during and after this merger. Glad Roy on our side and hope he doesn't let this go.
OH and Crew Dog.....OF COURSE we saw this coming, why do you think so many were so against the merger? duh! And the fact that they got that much of an increase and had that much profit......well WRONG!!!!!! on so many levels.

I sure hope Roy win this one for the citizens of NC. Remember, the rate increase also mean tax increase from the sales tax to the state. It's another way of increasing revnue (taxes) with out them having to actually vote a tax increase.

And the people didn't see this rate hike coming? Where have you been on the moon?

I think it is outrageous that the State makes 100 percent profit on their portion my electric bill.
