I see no reason to eliminate straight party voting. If term limit's are to be changed, then they should be changed to 1 term for all elected offices no matter what office it is.If you want voter ID then reduce the price for anyone who does not have a vaild state driver's license.

  • sillywabbitthepatriot Nov 9, 2:50 p.m.

(which I believe there was only a single case of)

    You "belief" is not fact.

    Try again.

The problem PanthersFan is that all the doom and gloomers already moved from those states to here, and now want to turn NC into their home states. I'd be fine with sending them back. :D

  • PanthersFan45 Nov 9, 12:11 p.m.

To all the doom & gloomers over the takeover by the Republican party in North Carolina ..... if you don't like it then move to a very blue state like New York or Pennsylvania. High taxes, businesses fleeing the heavy regulations, etc .... Look what the Democratic leadership has done for many of those North Eastern states. People are leaving and as a result they lose 2 to 3 elctoral votes every 10 years. No one wants that kind of environment, its horrible for business.

"The rest of the country moves forward....NC goes backwards, why is that not a surprise?"
    dwntwnboy

So, for the 1st time(that's right...1st) in a CENTURY(get it...100yrs) the State of NC's Executive Branch & General Assembly is Republican means NC is moving backwards? Seems like you may be stuck in the past if anything.

You can organize these folks rides to vote but you cant figure out how to get them IDs?-Crumps Br0ther

You have said a mouthful! One sentence; and that puts a deadend sentence to the word "disenfranchise" when it comes to something as simple as personal ID.....it does not even apply.

  • WooHoo2You Nov 9, 11:49 a.m.

How many Obama supporters went to the polls on Tuesday and were told that they had already voted and had to vote a provisional ballot that most likely did not get counted?- sillywabbitthepatriot

Voter ID would not have stopped that ERROR (which I believe there was only a single case of). Since you believe it would stop humans from making mistakes it must also prevent car crashes, prevent milk from spoiling, and hold off bad weather during vacations…

  • lasm Nov 9, 11:33 a.m.

To carlj1161: No one is going to be "disenfranchised" (good grief, if I hear that "catch-word" again, I am going to scream). It's obvious that if you cannot get ANY kind of LEGAL ID in the USA, then you are NOT eligible/legal to vote for ANY person or Party-or even BE in the USA. So, if that is the case, then that person has "disenfranchised" themselves. Why is this so hard for supposedly intelligent folks to understand? Could it be that one party is not as "bright" as another? I pray not......

  • sillywabbitthepatriot Nov 9, 11:22 a.m.

Voter ID laws does not disenfranchise anyone because it does not take away their right to vote.

How many Obama supporters went to the polls on Tuesday and were told that they had already voted and had to vote a provisional ballot that most likely did not get counted? This was a problem at preceints even though in small numbers. We all have to sign a form when we vote. That signature should match the signature on the photo ID you have and any person who wants to preserve the integrity of elections regardless of what party you support should support voter ID laws.

    >>"We can all agree that the kids are getting dumber."

Quite the contrary. As explained by the the Flynn effect, each successive generation has seen a steady increase in IQ (3 pts per decade) over the previous generation since measurement began around 1930. That trend has not changed.

Empirical data and scientific methodology > baseless unqualified assertions

  • thinlady1 Nov 9, 9:21 a.m.

ne Voice in the Wilderness, sounds like you are whining because we finally got a Governor that will turn this state around and take it to the top. I'm glad that Mr. McCrory won, and I think he will do a great job in spite of people like you crying and carrying on. He sure won't make the news as "The worst governor in the USA" like perdue did, and there sure won't be any scandals and fears of jail or prison like with perdue.

"We can all agree that the kids are getting dumber."

No we don't. this sounds like more of the usual right wing attempt to bash public schools. National test scores have shown steady gains over the last 30-40 years so your statement is false.I do see grade inflation and other changes due to societal pressure.

"And we all know most teachers are liberals."

Maybe beacause they support a party that supports them? BTW, there are a whole lot of conservative teachers here in NC.

  • carlj1161 Nov 9, 9:04 a.m.

Are the Republicans just stupid?? The voter ID law is going to disenfranchise the very people who didn't vote for the Republican's in the election. If half of them were to follow the law, if passed, do you seriously think they are going to vote Republican or remember the GOP tried to shaft them? If the GOP keeps it up, they will become the Whigs of the 21st century.

I am not against voter ID as long as they are free and accessible to the poor. Why are you so gung ho for voter ID above real problems (that have actually been found and proven) such as taxes, education, debt, job etc???? Do you spend all your free time hunting bigfoot, finding Elvis, and running from UFOs before taking care of yourself and family?

    Voter ID ?

The USA had UN(International) observers at various polls accross the Country. They were impressed overall by our process. However, they were "ASTOUNDED" by a few things.
    1. That there was no ID requirement. 2. That there were no "police" present.(No authorities/policing) 3.That there was any form of "mail in" voting. 4. That there was no standard procedure.(States just do their own thing, polls closing, voting procedure/ equipment, etc.)

    Voter fraud?.....Voter ID????

You left out one word that changes everything, "INTELLIGENT", as in intelligent investing would help.

I do agree with that, however the loss of millions of dollars by this admin without congressional oversight and investigation shows that this admin is more about doing "feel good" investing that garners no real results. Responsible investing is key.

Perhaps you should actually look into how many private entities worked with NASA in order to complete that mission. Government actually had very little to do with it.

Amazing that voter fraud is so widespread that it scares the dickens out of the GOP and they seek to force everyone to have to carry official government id's with them to vote. Sounds like they want to increase revenue or raise taxes, but not call it a tax from all the id fees..

  • godnessgracious2 Nov 8, 3:31 p.m.

How much has government discovered versus private enterprise?

Quite a bit. How many private enterprises landed on the moon in the 60's? Did this moon landing help or hurt the future economy?

Investing in research and innovation always pays back larger dividends than invested. It does not cause private industy to go bankrupt in creates entirely new industries to become economic powerhouses. • whatelseisnew Nov 8, 2:58 p.m.

    "Voter ID YES!!!"

Yeah, but we have a major problem. to make this effective we need to have everybody re-register and at the time of that registration all citizens must shown proof of citizenship. too many states, North Carolina being one of them handed out Driver Licenses to millions of illegals. So unless we re-register and obtain positive proof of citizenship, we will still have millions of illegals voting. Course the upcoming new amnesty program will handle that. We just need to plan for a new amnesty every twenty years or so because our Federal Government refuses to enforce laws and refuses to secure the borders. The good news is, once we hit third world status, people will leave here to find another country to victimize. Canada better start making plans for the mass influx.

"How much of your money are you willing to allow the government to throw away?

"How much of your planet are you willing to destroy by not funding green energy?"----godnessgracious2

Do you mean to imply that there is no private entities exploring green energy? Do you mean to imply that only the government can?

How much has government discovered versus private enterprise?

And another way to phrase it, the Government funds and enterprise that goes bankrupt. Government no longer has that money to use. Government then needs more money, forcing people to use up more fossil fuels to work harder to provide for their family what the government took away to fund more projects that fold.

So in essence the government is the biggest enemy of finding new energy sources, and the biggest destroyer of Earth since we have to work more to fund them, using up more precious fossil fuels.

    Any questions?
