If the truth be known, I'll bet he was asked to resign because he told the board that he made a mistake by voting for Obama in '08.
By refusing to march in lockstep(pun)politically with the rest of the UNC campus it was time for him to go.

I very much doubt that this happened. The BOT would not be asking him to reconsider if the BOG had asked him to resign.

Wolfspeaking here, but as far as Holden Thorp is concerned, let it go. I dare say he was handcuffed by a combination of Ram's Club, Board of Governors and Board of Trustee members.
