The only reason the NAACP has any presence at all today is because the media gives them coverage for every little snub, insult, or affront of whatever description. If the media would ignore them, they would go away..

  • timexliving Mar 23, 5:12 p.m.

Oh yeah…the ‘liberal media.’ But it’s only “liberal” when it reports something you don’t like…. WooHoo2You

Wrong again! Briebart, Fox News, Hannity, and the rest of the alternative news media.

  • wideload Mar 23, 1:32 p.m.

Barber is more disgusting by far than the cartoon.

[You know, if more people would go public to rally against Mr. Barber instead of simply posting their comments here]

We work - the protesters don't.

  • bean112455 Mar 23, 11:04 a.m.

I feel all the hoopla over this is an infringement on Servatius and the John Locke Society First Amendment rights. I'm going to exercise my First Amendment Rights and ask the question....Where was the watermelon?

  • ayby0611 Mar 23, 10:38 a.m.

You know, if more people would go public to rally against Mr. Barber instead of simply posting their comments here, something may get done. Mr. Barber and the NAACP have only the level of power that the general public allow them to get away with. Until people unite and get Mr. Barbor out of power, nothing will change.

  • cpdtg Mar 23, 10:29 a.m.

Boy this is what the rev loves he gets to talk about how bad his race is treated and how the world is against HIS PEOPLE

  • WooHoo2You Mar 23, 10:25 a.m.

Where was all the uproar when things were being said or done to Sarah Palin or George Bush or the Tea Party?????? Where is the uproar because we know so little about Barack Obama and how he got to where he is today???

The liberals and their fellow media are two faced!!!!!-tgentry1005

And how did you hear about those things again? Oh yeah…the ‘liberal media.’ But it’s only “liberal” when it reports something you don’t like….

  • westernwake1 Mar 23, 10:19 a.m.

The NAACP once again making an mountain out of a mole hill in order to raise more money for Rev. Barber.

  • fatchanceimwrong Mar 23, 10:17 a.m.

The NAACP shouldn't have any beef with the foundation. This was the act of one individual. That individual is who they should be taking action against if they choose to take action against anyone.

""We have to stand against this, and it should not just be an affront to black folks but to all of America," state NAACP President Rev. William Barber said."

If it had been a "white" president, nobody would have said a word. And why does everyone refer to Obama as our first black president. He is no more black than white, nor is he any more white than black.

This is just another excuse for William Barber to spout off about something.

  • josephlawrence43 Mar 23, 10:01 a.m.

Somebody please give me a break here. One person does something stupid--and the whole world comes screeching to a halt so the everpresent, confrontational, accusatory racist NAACP can get its name in the paper again by demanding its pound of flesh just like Shylock.

  • WooHoo2You Mar 23, 9:54 a.m.

liked it and am tired of tolerating everything that some self proclaimed leader says is wrong.-kermit60

I think that “self proclaimed leader” was elected via a democratic process by a majority of Americans to be their leader.

  • Raptor06 Mar 23, 9:40 a.m.

"Don't give the barber ANY face time!"...boneymaroney13

Rev Barber is exercising his rights as an American citizen. Why do so many who claim to support our Constitution desire to deny him that right? I don't always agree with him, but this country belongs to every American citizen, and he qualifies for that right. Do only certain Americans who have that right?

"Why do democrats always want special treatment?"...whatusay

"Special treatment" belongs to all Americans...not just a few.

  • bill0 Mar 23, 9:33 a.m.

"Was this picture any worse than those others? If so, where do you draw line?'

There is a long, long history of political cartoons. There isn't a bright line that everyone agrees not to cross, but the vast majority of people find this kind of racists nonsense over that line. You just don't use burning crosses, swastikas, or other racially charged element etc. It's not funny.

Likewise, there is a long history of burning or hanging leaders in effigy. It's pretty tasteless IMO, but it generally accepted to not be an actual threat on the person's life. It is not accepted to go after the children of family of the leader in a similar way though.

  • WooHoo2You Mar 23, 9:30 a.m.

I don't remember anyone being upset when Sarah Palin or GWB was insulted over and over again. Why do democrats always want special treatment?-whatusay

Well you don’t have a very good memory because there was a very large republican “outcry” when Palin and Bush were insulted. (note the 20 some post under and including yours still to this day bringing it up)

  • kermit60 Mar 23, 9:20 a.m.

The minorities crying like babies again. They say it's politics until it's about them. Then it's a terrible racist comment that no american should tolerate. I liked it and am tired of tolerating everything that some self proclaimed leader says is wrong.

  • whatusay Mar 23, 8:46 a.m.

Didn't the Muslims react the same way when Muhammad was characterized in cartoons? I don't remember anyone being upset when Sarah Palin or GWB was insulted over and over again. Why do democrats always want special treatment?

  • miketroll3572 Mar 23, 8:39 a.m.

Bunch of cry babies that can't take the heat.

  • boneymaroney13 Mar 23, 8:17 a.m.

"Gas Prices, Keystone Pipeline, the economy and employment should be the lead articles. Not this junk!" You are absolutely right. Don't give the barber ANY face time!

  • boneymaroney13 Mar 23, 8:15 a.m.

Yeah, yeah, yeah! One side "hates" and the other doesn't. Where were these clowns during the Palin bashings? Both mother and daughter! Huh, where were you guy's? Or, were they just fair game?

  • joseyjjj Mar 23, 8:07 a.m.

Despicable! - but that's what happens when folks allow their minds to be infested with hate.
And like Limbaugh - they crossed the line.

  • Karmageddon Mar 23, 8:05 a.m.

Yes, the picture is racist but Obama and Bush have both been portrayed as Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and even as Satan without all this hoopla. Was this picture any worse than those others? If so, where do you draw line?

  • jdupree Mar 22, 7:54 p.m.

Gas Prices, Keystone Pipeline, the economy and employment should be the lead articles. Not this junk!

  • michaelyellin Mar 22, 7:42 p.m.

So many Haters. . , so little time!

  • ebeamer747 Mar 22, 7:38 p.m.

How truly sad that there are so many racist and homophobic groups who post such trash and horrific pics. It is both in poor taste and does the conservative party harm. This is in a way great publicity both against the amendment and for the President's re-election. It shows just how low conservatives will stoop. And, how could this take two days to remove it?

  • kawirider54 Mar 22, 7:32 p.m.

If you are of 'color' & conservative then watch out.

  • timexliving Mar 22, 7:31 p.m.

"The NAACP is so attempting everyday to bring back the 60's...Why go backwards??"

Yet another excellent point and question. Why go backwards??? Because that's where their power lies. Racism will never go away; it' far to profitable.

  • yankee1 Mar 22, 7:29 p.m.

RIGHT ON TIMEXLIVING1 YOU GET IT1 when will the rest of America wake up?

  • yankee1 Mar 22, 7:28 p.m.

Where was the outrage when Bush was hung in effigy? The NAACP uses the same tactics as a rotten boss who for once in his life has power. As long as white America, corporations and private groups keep cow-towing to the whiny race baiters, they will keep baiting just like the boss who harasses employees until one of them gets in his face and says no more! It's time to tell the race baiters it's over, we're done with your baloney!

  • chance Mar 22, 7:28 p.m.

John Hood just lost my respect!!!!!! So Barber is the web police now? Why can't people in this state STOP bowing to Barber's pressure? Hood had absolutely no reason to meet with Barber.

  • BlahBlahBlahBlahBlah Mar 22, 7:25 p.m.

    Good Lord
People have been distorting Political Figures for years.!!
    Who pays attention???????
Someone looking for attention..The NAACP is so attempting everyday to bring back the 60's...Why go backwards??

  • timexliving Mar 22, 7:22 p.m.

" If Mr. Barber could harness that energy and use it fix problems from within, the NAACP wouldn't need to exist anymore - or was that the point in the first place?" SaveEngergyMan

Kudos! Well said and an excellent point, SaveEngergyMan

  • SaveEnergyMan Mar 22, 7:16 p.m.

As usual, someone has posted something in poor taste and the other side has blown it out of proportion. This is not the first time offensive images of politicians have been posted, and it certainly won't be the last. Firing her was the right thing to do.

With that being said, the NAACP should be called the most offended organization in the world. They immediately take this opportunity to use it to promote their version of victimization. It's always someone else's fault; it's easier to point the finger of blame at someone else. If Mr. Barber could harness that energy and use it fix problems from within, the NAACP wouldn't need to exist anymore - or was that the point in the first place?

  • Nancy Mar 22, 7:14 p.m.

But he's a public figure right? Isn't that the excuse for attacks on women who are public figures?

Aside, I think it was very poor taste and don't condone it but then again I don't condone half the nonsense that comes out from a lot of folks, even on these boards ;)

  • wildpig777 Mar 22, 6:54 p.m.

i'll tell you what is an affront-- willie barber is an affront to all civic minded lets all live together type of good americans.Barber -you're a headline chaser, and a whole lot of hot air....

  • philipw Mar 22, 6:54 p.m.

Packman 35 - Hurrah! someone figured out how to bring Sarah Palin into this, as a victim! Isn't she the one who put a bulls-eye over the picture of the congresslady - same one who ended up with a bullet in her head at a community meeting? Obama in chains, eating fried chicken with a woman's bathing suit on... at least it's not violent, just something else to feed the hate of the ones who choose to hate. Have at it.

  • AlbertEinstein Mar 22, 6:53 p.m.

I am very much in line with US VET - even if you are of color, there is little that is of concern here. The Civil War is over - get over it!

  • Old-Guy Mar 22, 6:50 p.m.

    Yawn !

  • ncgayatheist Mar 22, 6:49 p.m.

The Liberals hide behind women and play the race card at every turn because they know their policies have driven our country off the economic cliff PRN13nrm

OMG are y'all serious? With the racist history of our nation you can't see why this is an issue? I certainly hope that my own rights are NEVER ever put up to a vote with people like you. Oh, wait! They are this may when the state votes on MY ability to have a husband. REALLY encouraged here.

  • US VET Mar 22, 6:35 p.m.

    Who cares...

  • Rebelyell55 Mar 22, 6:10 p.m.

This is pure sicken, if they bow down to Rev. B the state and there party is in worse shape than the Democrates. I didn't vote for Obama, and I love see the cartoon, but if there is not other canadiate from anywhere but what being shown, (except Ron Paul), I'll most likely vote for him. I'm that up set with this whole thing. Register and vote as an independent, and help take our goverment back from these two parties , for me, polictican who'll never have your best interest at heart. I'll never give up my vote, I'll use it even if it mean putting someon in office who is corrupt, it'll only mean I'm voting for who I think is the least corrupt and will the least amount of damage while in office.

  • lisaclark2 Mar 22, 6:06 p.m.

    who cares

  • piene2 Mar 22, 6:01 p.m.

Why would we expect anything more from the Repubs? They know they are going down the tubes in November and are clutching at straws.
