remember the out cry when the black hawk was shot down and they drag the polit's body thru the street the out cry over that . where is the code of honor that we have fought under forover. shame on them

  • soyousay Jan 16, 7:32 p.m.

Putting a Marine in charge of the investigation is wrong.

actually it is absolutely the correct way to proceed, the Marines take duty and honor very seriously

  • GK N.Ral Jan 16, 10:42 a.m.

Putting a Marine in charge of the investigation is wrong. Like asking a cat to find out who ate the mouse! People keep making excuses, THERE IS NO ACCEPTABLE EXCUSE, WE ARE BETTER THAN THAT!

If those were U.S. Marines getting .p .i .s .s .e. d. on we would go to war with these people. You guys say its not a big deal but you know if the tables were turned the same people saying, "its war... it happens." Would be the ones flipping their lids..

  • gnewsome1 Jan 13, 7:47 p.m.

You answered your own question. It's war and bad things happen in war.

  • gnewsome1 Jan 13, 7:41 p.m.

"our military is ending up much like the Vietnam vets, enemies at home and abroad". Amen to that. It was a tough time to be in the military.

  • gnewsome1 Jan 13, 7:36 p.m.

Hamid Karzai needs to stop weeping over 3 dead Taliban. For the rest of you who are whining over the enemy, how about trying to shed a tear over the 1800+ American Soldiers who have been killed in Afghanistan to date.

  • DavidJonathan Jan 13, 7:36 p.m.

Yes, it is war, and bad things happen in war. But who started this war? These so-called Taliban fighters were children 10 years ago when 9/11 happened. WE invaded THEM. We killed bin Laden and wiped out the leadership of al-Queda, the group responsible for it. So why are we still there, desecrating bodies and saying, "aw shucks, it's just what happens in war"?
Also...these Marines knew well about Abu Gharib prison/abuse/photos/etc and the case of the soldiers on trial 4 wiping out a large number of Iraqi civilians. Just read Rolling Stone, or the New York Times, or google "Gitmo abuse." Why did they continue this behavior in the summer of 2011?

  • emsselb1 Jan 13, 7:30 p.m.

Cantstandya, you finally said something right. I totally agree with you, man.

  • cantstandya Jan 13, 7:24 p.m.

I guess the best way to stop this from happening is for America to control and safeguard our country and stop with all the tending to other countries affairs, these men are being hung out to dry while the leaders of that country are breaking bread with the same enemy our men face each day and all financed by US dollars, war is no place to try to incorperate rules when only one side is required to play by them, let these Marines get office hours and bring the rest home, our military is ending up much like the Vietnam vets, enemies athome and abroad.

  • emsselb1 Jan 13, 7:06 p.m.

Cantstandya, I know exactly what you are saying but do you believe me when I tell you that MOST of these women and children were innocent. It was just like, "d--n you do and d--n you don't". They were trapped because where they lived. Yet they couldn't move because they were so poor. There was absolutely no where they could move. During the day they obeyed what VN & American soldiers ordered them to do. Nights came these poor 'creatures' were bullied by the VC. VC took their husbands, young sons and threatened to kill if they didn't do such and such. Many didn't and their men were killed or disappeared. Some were weak and did as the VC ordered. Tragically, it didn't change the fate of their men either. The lives of the poor have no value. We sure acted that way didn't we? We just shoot them ALL to make sure we've got it covered.

  • dmpaltman2 Jan 13, 6:58 p.m.

Just call the Marines into their COs office. Talk to them and let it go. We are becoming to soft, when we care that the Taliban is angry. Tell Karzi to sit down and shut up or we will quit protecting him. Semper Fi

  • cantstandya Jan 13, 6:35 p.m.

emsselb1, I really did not exspect you or anyone else to agree with any or all of my posted comments, but when you were in Vietnam did you ever exsperience when we had an MPC change or letting the Vietnamese come into your base camp during the day to get your fatigues to wash, while the whole time they were walking off distance for the VC to gauge their rocket attacks that night, they were unarmed when they came during the day but beleive me at night they which includes women and children were quite a formidable foe,Lt Calley was a scapegoat for many others who did what needed to be done.

  • fitteryou Jan 13, 6:28 p.m.

Why? It was stupid to do, and now its over. More important things to worry about.

  • gnewsome1 Jan 13, 6:21 p.m.

"Desecration of the dead is as old as war itself" Read this associated article, especially the part about expressing rage over what has been done to fellow soldiers by the enemy.

  • gnewsome1 Jan 13, 6:18 p.m.

"Maynard Sinclair, a Marine veteran of Vietnam and the peacekeeping mission in Beirut, said the outrage shows the public's naiveté about war". Pretty much sums it up people.

  • 25roses Jan 13, 6:12 p.m.

I would love to see this much outrage when our troops are slaughtered, burned, and dragged through the streets of the countries we are "defending". The coverage of this is ridiculous. I am not disturbed or offended. No, they should not have done it. But this is being treated in a far worse manner than some real crimes. It really is true if you have a picture you have the news for the day. Unworthy of this much attention and hype. If your tender feelings are hurt by this you need to grow up.

  • iluvjunk Jan 13, 6:11 p.m.

In my opinion they deserve worse than they got. What difference does it make if they were pi--ed off or pi--ed on. I'm sure our soldiers have got worse.

  • yukonjohn3 Jan 13, 6:08 p.m.

Elect Ron Paul or adopt his policy of stopping the war on drugs, and this war is over. The only thing that funds the Taliban is the profit from poppies (heroin). As long as it is illegal, they are rich. Legalize it and they are the third world paupers that they deserve to be!!!

  • gnewsome1 Jan 13, 6:07 p.m.

"I rest my case" What case? You don't have one. The enlisted men are high school graduates or better. The officers are College graduates or better.

  • emsselb1 Jan 13, 6:06 p.m.

Monca-Sorry,I don't agree with you about Bradley Manning. Cantstandya and Gunny462-Sorry I don't agree with you about Mylai nor about what our young men did to the death. Two wrongs don't make a wright. I agree with Foulkyfamily 100%. Foulkyfamily wrote,“As a former Marine…this is embarrassing, humiliating, and irritating. We should hold ourselves to higher standards. I know what the Taliban does to US troops when they kill them, not to mention 9-11. Yes, they cut americans head off, yes they burn the bodies. I know, I have been there. Like I said, higher standards, an INTERNATIONAL leadership example. I could say so much about the US Marine Sniper, I served with a Sniper platoon back in 2007. Many of the men in my platoon were the most womanizing, pig headed, alcoholic, irresponsible and selfish people I have ever met. On another note, they respected every life they took, as well as took care of each other. These Marines in this video lack proper leadership as well as common sense

Don't like it here, MOVE. This country was born by the gun, you definitely don't like it here, so MOVE. You're so closed minded, it's a wonder you can see the anarchists manifesto laying in your lap.

  • Coretta Scott Thing Jan 13, 5:58 p.m.

Sec of State Clinton has a long history of hating our military. The Generals are following orders from their liberal civilian superiors. The entire world is NOT condeming this. Only those who are predisposed to hate America anyway,. Flashsparks

I would love to see your list of people supporting these urinators! ( other than out of work hillbillies, right-wing-wing-nuts, and doomsday meth addicts)

  • gunny462 Jan 13, 5:56 p.m.

it is sickly funny that our troops think that they are better or different than any other country's troops. regular soldiers in any military are exactly the same. poorly educated, mostly non-skilled, and would have nothing else to do if it wasn't for being in the military. they both have families, both think they are doing what is right based on whatever stupid religion they believe in, christianity or islam (which are so similar its hilarious), and whatever brainwashing they have received by their associated "leaders".monca"

LOL, how uneducated you are. Poorly educated? Funny last time I get service-members have to have at least HS diploma(or equivalent). All troops learn a skill in all branches. And if they didn't have anything to do then why join the military, obama would hire them to do nothing as a CS. Islam and Christianity the same? wow! The ONLY one I can see that's been brainwashed (if she had one) is you.

  • TheDude abides... Jan 13, 5:54 p.m.

Lets stop giving aid and stop fighting wars for other folks and then we wont have to worry bout all this.

Guess who will do that in 2013?

  • TheDude abides... Jan 13, 5:53 p.m.

Why are we over there anyways? Protecting my freedom? From what? They got some cutting-edge technology I dont know about over there?

Just forget about all this and bring them home

  • gunny462 Jan 13, 5:51 p.m.

"I call it as it is...My dog likes to pee on things. I would think humans are a bit higher on the evolution scale..lol

So do I. I'm just wondering how your dog, who it appears is up the evolutionary scale than you, is capable to get on your computer and type so well.

  • emsselb1 Jan 13, 5:51 p.m.

Gunny462 - Sorry to inform you that you were so wrong. Why do I know you were wrong? It is simply because I was there.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Lai_Massacre
Consider the website above provides just a slight of what really happened.

"With all the generals condemning this, with the secretary of state condemning this, with the entire world condemning this, WHY are so many in NC supporting these actions?"

    Why? Here's why.

    1. Sec of State Clinton has a long history of hating our military.

    2. The Generals are following orders from their liberal civilian superiors.

    3. The entire world is NOT condeming this. Only those who are predisposed to hate America anyway, while at the same time accepting our aid whenever they suffer through an earthquake, typhoon, tsunami, or genocide perpetuated by their own little 3rd world dictators.

  • Coretta Scott Thing Jan 13, 5:47 p.m.

f you think that was a crime it was not, what it was was preventing them from rendering help to the VC and NVA,both of which concealed themselves into the civilian population of the villages by day and attacking us at night if you help the enemy it makes you one of the enemy, there is no age or gender requirement. cantstandya

    To Monca:

Bradley? Really? You have no idea what harm this poor excuse of a citizen let alone a soldier did by leaking these records.
While you are spewing off at the mouth just remember it was those soldiers, airman, sailors & marines that protect you and give you your free speech you so easily take advantage of. Maybe you need to move to Europe..and stay..

  • gunny462 Jan 13, 5:35 p.m.

"Are you really saying that because 50,00 troops were killed in Vietnam it's ok to do this?monca"

And did you ever wonder why or read about the reason why those troops followed orders and killed most of the people in My Lai?

  • gunny462 Jan 13, 5:33 p.m.

"Those who sign the Geneva Convention have to abide by it and it's also against our military code.... I still can't believe some posters think its a great idea to urinate on dead bodies...come on people.Bill Brasky"

As I've stated more than once, so what's your point? Try reading, it helps sometimes.

  • emsselb1 Jan 13, 5:33 p.m.

Monca - Thank you. You just hit the nail on the head. No one said it better. Monca wrote, "With all the generals condemning this, with the secretary of state condemning this, with the entire world condemning this, WHY are so many in NC supporting these actions? Perhaps gaining an education is in order for some?"

  • gunny462 Jan 13, 5:31 p.m.

"It is NOT clear the dead men were Taliban. Someone just put that caption on the video. So at this point, we have NO EVIDENCE they were "Taliban fighters."

And at this point YOU do not have any evidence to suggest otherwise but you convicted them, nice.

  • gnewsome1 Jan 13, 5:31 p.m.

If you are brave enough to be a sniper, all else is secondary, including peeing on the enemy. Wikileaks?? On yea, that's the sex offender who leaks sensitive military information endangering the lives of Americans without any regard for them.

  • cantstandya Jan 13, 5:30 p.m.

monca, You always seem to be so critical and unforgiving of Americans no matter what the subject might be,I truly question your sympathetic natures with our enemies your safe behind that screen name which allows you the freedoms preserved by our fighting men and women but also shows your cowardly side to be concealed and if you are from this country your loyalty to it.

  • gunny462 Jan 13, 5:29 p.m.

"I'd rather have one Bradley Manning on our side than 100,000 loose bladdered marines any day.monca"

I would rather have 4 bladder filled marines shooting at Taliban than to admit I served to save YOUR hide.

  • kawirider54 Jan 13, 5:28 p.m.

Their only crime is being STUPID enough to film it. Apparently as one commenter noted it is OK to PEE on the US Flag but NOT the dead corpse of a Terrorist. It's OK to behead a non-combatant US citizen, it's OK to drag soldier's bodies through a rat-infested hole like Mogadishu, or kill them & throw them upside down off a bridge in Falluja. It's all relative!!! These people want to kill us.

  • gnewsome1 Jan 13, 5:28 p.m.

"I'd rather have one Bradley Manning on our side than 100,000 loose bladdered marines any day". Wonder how long Manning would last in a war if it was only him and you against the enemy. It's easy to criticize and condemn behind the safety of your computer. In war, it is not easy. Don't condemn these soldiers. None of us know the facts yet, including you.

  • flashsparks Jan 13, 5:28 p.m.

"It takes bravery to to what Pvt. Bradley Manning did when he passed restricted materials to Wikileaks that resulted in showing the world exactly what America and other countries have been up to" --- monca

These Marines and their predecessors are the reason why you have the ability to express you ignorant comments. Cliched, but true, "Freedom is not Free".

"Taliban issued a statement accusing U.S. forces of committing numerous "indignities" against the Afghan people."

How quickly we forget!!! Americans should not care one bit what the Taliban of all groups think. The reason Marines and other U.S. armed forces went into Afghanistan was to wipe out the Taliban because they gave aid to Osama Bin Laden.

These Marines probably shouldn't have done this, but let's get back to reality people and get a grip!!!

  • Coretta Scott Thing Jan 13, 5:18 p.m.

It takes no bravery of any sort to urinate on a dead man. It takes bravery to to what Pvt. Bradley Manning did when he passed restricted materials to Wikileaks that resulted in showing the world exactly what America and other countries have been up to ( including films of our air strikes against unarmed civilians in Baghdad and Afghanistan. He is being punished for one thing, not hiding our dirty laundry. I'd rather have one Bradley Manning on our side than 100,000 loose bladdered marines any day.
