It makes me laugh when people who can't spell talk about what is "bringing down" society. Kermit, please show me where there is any proof that two people wanting to spend their lives together or people wanting to be equal led to the downfall of ANY of the societies you mentioned. In fact, lack of education and ignorance of history has a much better chance of bringing down society. I commend the woman in this article for stepping down to speak out about something she feels strongly about. If more people took the time to educate themselves about the FACTS and took a peaceful but strong stand for what they believe in, the world would be a better place. The true problem with today's society is that most people get their "facts" from 30 second news bites and the people who yell the loudest win. It seems only the crazy and fanatical take a stand any more and no one takes the time to listen to the other side or do any research on their point.

ambernicole919....ban divorce for gays won't work...the divorce rate is the same for same sex marriage as gay marriages, except in state the prohibit gay marriages....then it's higher...figure that.

  • beaupeep Jan 11, 2012

"If she agreed with an amendment and resigned her job becaise of it, it obviously would be news and I would expect WRAL would cover it. The comment made no sense."

Except WRAL wouldn't run a story. That's what ronda was saying.

The comment made perfect sense, you just phailed to understand.

Can anyone give one example of how gay marriage harms North Carolina in any way?
Please only logical, factual and rational responses.

  • ambernicole919 Jan 11, 2012

Ban divorce if anything then people will think about who they choose as their life partner. I won't lose sleep at night because people of the same sex got married that day. The majority needs to get things back on the right path and involve them selves in things that have nothing to do with them but don't want to help the unemployed with any type of assistance that helps them feed their kids. MAKES SENSE *insert sarcastic sound here*

  • whatusay Jan 11, 2012

geosol.... you can sleep with or marry a person of the same sex if you want to. You see to carry the gay tourch so well.

  • ghimmy51 Jan 11, 2012

Uhm ... folks? Just a second now ... WHAT do you care what two people do with THEIR lives? Religious beliefs are fine. Have your own. Let others have or not have theirs. I don't want anyone FORCING their religious beliefs (Muslim, Hindu, Wickkan, etc.) on me and you wouldn't either. Why don't we just leave other people alone? A partner in life is a personal decision and laws against individuals are not right. Never were. Never will be. By backing laws against a PERSON you open yourself to laws against YOU.

'Uh, if she didn't agree with an amendment allowing same sex marriages?'

Well if she did that and did not leave her post, it obviously wouldnt be news. If she agreed with an amendment and resigned her job becaise of it, it obviously would be news and I would expect WRAL would cover it. The comment made no sense.

  • americangop Jan 11, 2012

Harnett County is better because she left.

  • beaupeep Jan 11, 2012

"ronda1991, whar exactly would be the opposite of this?"

Uh, if she didn't agree with an ammendment ALLOWING same sex marriages?

  • kermit60 Jan 11, 2012

Our society is out of control and going down fast due to he entitlement and cival rights people. Everyone feels they can and should be aloud to do whatever they want without reguard for everyone else. The majority needs to stand up and put things back on track. If it doesn't we will be another chapter in a future history book. Just like the Romans, Egyptians, Aztecs, just to name a few. We are not immune from the same circumstances that brought them down. We just think we are.

  • geosol Jan 11, 2012

Excellent! Congrats, Ms. Toler! Keep up the good fight against right wing fear, hate, and ignorance, and VOTE AGAINST ALL REPUBLICANS IN EVERY RACE!!!!!

  • For the U.S.A. Jan 10, 2012

    Please stay in Wilmington!!

  • dontstopnow Jan 10, 2012

Guess it was time for her to move on. Personally her opinion is not important to anyone who agrees 'marriage' is between a man and woman. Nobody cares what she thinks and this was her way of getting some headlines for her cause.

  • adw2 Jan 10, 2012

    Good Riddence !!!

  • sunshine1040 Jan 10, 2012

What is she doing in the bedroom of other couples anyway. I do not care who is sleeping with whom as long as it is not the person that took a vow to foresake all other when he married me

  • scottvette Jan 10, 2012

    >>>>GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....don't let the door knob hit yo'in the buttocks!

  • Mr. Middle of the Road Jan 10, 2012

ronda1991, whar exactly would be the opposite of this?

  • Coretta Scott Thing Jan 10, 2012

What a brave woman, in Harnett County of all places! She is so correct "Marriage provides over 1,000 legal rights and protections," Why the right wing thinks that a loving couple of whatever gender takes anything away from the people of NC is beyond me. Equality enhances our lives, it doesn't detract. This amendment is a black eye on our state.

  • ronda1991 Jan 10, 2012

Whatever. Who cares? If the opposite had happened, the LIBERAL WRAL wouldn't even have written a word.

  • westernwake1 Jan 10, 2012

You got to give her integrity for standing up for what she believes in. She resigned from her job so she would be free to speak out.

  • Mr. Middle of the Road Jan 10, 2012

A courageuos women who is full of integrity. A stand against bigotry.

  • duplinprint Jan 10, 2012

I could go for throwing away the word "marriage". It's meaning is the only issue that I have that seems to cause controvery. The word "Marriage" by definition means two opposites that comes together. Instead of a Man and a Woman getting a Marriage license, lets all just get a domestic partnership license instead. That could be the breakthrough in equality.

  • Defiant Jan 10, 2012

    Good Riddance.

  • carrboroyouth Jan 10, 2012

Kudos to her for being so proactive in what she believes in.

  • Rebelyell55 Jan 10, 2012

Well that's her right. Wonder who'll replace her?
