"So, why do citizens always elect people into office who are crooks, liars, etc?"

They all lie! It's just who gets caught..I personally am tired of hearing about it..move on!

"So, why do citizens always elect people into office who are crooks, liars, etc?"

that is what the political system is.....even those with the best intents become overwhelmed with the bed of (political) snakes that await them...

number of terms of service must absolutely be changed

  • Alexia Jan 6, 7:37 p.m.

So, why do citizens always elect people into office who are crooks, liars, etc? Not that I'm saying this man is one -- not even sure why he's being punished. But, it just amazes me how corrupt our elected are.

It seems that the majority are in agreement that govt is pretty corrupt. Never seen a poor politician... that being said... they don't show up for votes which basically means they are not at work, some don't have to pay social security, cause they have different retirement than the common man, sorry person, they have access to investment info we don't and if we had the same access we would be put under the jail, on and on and on, myself included, what are we gonna do about it, talk is cheap, blogging is whining...

  • KT6596 Jan 6, 6:20 p.m.

the prez fooled a lot of you people....didn't he....you took the BAIT....hook, line and sinker.....lol...

  • dws Jan 6, 6:11 p.m.

Appalling, but not surprising. "Justice" is an overstated and maligned word that often pertains to the abuse of the legal intent of law.

  • dollibug Jan 6, 6:10 p.m.

++++Nothing will EVER change. Just goes to show that if you're in law/politics/insurance, you will ALWAYS be above the law! Look what a FINE example Clinton made for our children....Easley, a convicted felon and is going to get his license back in a year...no wonder our society is so messed up!
    suzybrooks310

It is all corruption and cover up.....and will continue...

  • dumbhick Jan 6, 5:57 p.m.

Foxes guarding the henhouse .... Has nothing to do with Dem or Repub, lawyers will not turn on their own any more than physicians will.

  • Alex25 Jan 6, 5:55 p.m.

Another Govt power mad Liberal Democrat.....geez

  • ncdedhed Jan 6, 5:52 p.m.

As an attorney, I am outraged that an elected official (who also happens to be an attorney) gets by on this. If this had been someone other than a high profile public official, they would have lost their license permanently.

The NC State Bar helps those who help them.

  • duster 340 Jan 6, 5:39 p.m.

Another crooked NC democrat will get by with a crime.

  • simracer68 Jan 6, 5:26 p.m.

One wonders: How many people on the "Bar" that made this decision were put there by or because of Easley? Agree with beachlvr - had this been anyone but a crooked NC democrat, he'd still be in jail.

  • suzybrooks310 Jan 6, 5:25 p.m.

  • Southern Girl Jan 6, 5:24 p.m.

Since when can HE say what HE wants in the way of punishment. He "agrees to license suspension." This does not make any sense at all.
Why was he given a choice in the matter? If he did merits disbarment, he should be disbarred - NOW!

  • boneymaroney13 Jan 6, 5:18 p.m.

When he was in office and robbing the Highway Trust Fund no one did anything then. Why would you expect anything different??

  • suzybrooks310 Jan 6, 5:16 p.m.

They ALWAYS take care of their own! He shouldn't be allowed to EVER practice again!

  • beachlvr0804 Jan 6, 5:15 p.m.

Slap on the wrist.....if it were anyone else, they would be in jail.

  • Mom2two Jan 6, 4:50 p.m.

So just like with all lawyers, it isn't what you actually did. It is what you admit to. The idea of guilt then becomes nebulous. You know he is guilty and corrupt, yet you excuse it away. There is no justice.

  • mike275132 Jan 6, 4:41 p.m.

If you are a member of the Corrupt Democrat NC Machine- You can be convicted felon [Jim Black , Easley] or lying Adulterer[John Edwards] and still keep your Licenses and keep getting re-elected.

  • dollibug Jan 6, 4:40 p.m.

    +++What a joke.
    bubbba

The entire stinking government system is a JOKE.....NO ONE...period is held accountable and/or responsible for anything....same in Washington....OH what a web we weave....again....there is so much CORRUPTION AND COVER UP....and it is EVERYWHERE....and just continues to get worse...

  • i walk alone Jan 6, 4:37 p.m.

HOW DO WE AS A PEOPLE FIX THIS.....LEGALLY OR ILLEGALLY ....YA CANT FIGHT CORRUPTION LEGALLY IN NC

  • gunny462 Jan 6, 4:37 p.m.

"Easley will go down in History of NC as being one of the most corrupt in our Government. He should be in prison today. What a joke of a leader and a person. Greed does this to people.
    Hokie 94"

    Won't top Nifong

  • mdh67 Jan 6, 4:34 p.m.

The Bar Association has nothing to do with the state bar. They are 2 different organizations. If you don't think lawyers get disbarred, read the NCBar's website: http://www.ncbar.com/discipline/

  • SmokeWagon Jan 6, 4:30 p.m.

So....a convicted felon...gets ANOTHER good ol' boy slap on the wrist, a wink and a nod and sent on his merry way....when he SHOULD be in jail...!!!! Is there any wonder that no one has ANY respect at all for the pay to play, good ol' boy, NC liberal justice system...??????

  • Sauras69 Jan 6, 4:28 p.m.

Easley will go down in History of NC as being one of the most corrupt in our Government. He should be in prison today. What a joke of a leader and a person. Greed does this to people.

  • IAMAmerican Jan 6, 4:17 p.m.

Soooooooooooo, you can have a felony on your record and contiue to practice law? Wow, this is just messed up!!!!!

  • gunny462 Jan 6, 4:10 p.m.

"The State Bar Association is predominately GOP and hasn't been "mostly democrat" since the 1970's. love2dostuff"

"You, of course can prove that statement, right? You start looking for the proof and I'll check back with you in about five years. fayncmike"

Nope, both of you can look for yourselves. As it is a STATE AGENCY, who do you think has been in control of it for... ooooh the last 100 years? SO please, look up the 20 or so names and find out for all of us.

  • dollibug Jan 6, 4:04 p.m.

This is kinda of like who is minding the store...the NC BAR is suppose to be over the attorneys....they do absolutely nothing...the Judicial System is over the judges...they do nothing also....so who is minding the store? Well...NO ONE...and this is true in ALL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES...most government people are NOT HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYONE AND/OR ANYTHING.......for the most part...they will NOT EVEN ANSWER QUESTIONS....every one says....get an attorney...yeh right...so that the attorneys can cover their tracks...and not doing anything about it either...it is a network of close knit community of political world...they got everyone where they want them...UNTIL SOMETHING REALLY BIG HAPPENS and THEY GET CAUGHT.....and then they find excuses...

    Republican Radical Revenge Resurfaces Recently!

  • dollibug Jan 6, 4:00 p.m.

It just goes to show you how crooked some of our state government is in NC. Look at Smithfield NC for an example corrupt DA, Lawyer,Insurance agents. You can't hold them responsible because they didn't realize that they were doing anything wrong. If they do the crime they need to pay the time
    ttbs1031

OMG...you indeed said a mouthful....but WHO is going to make sure that these people who are CORRUPT are held accountable? Nope...that ain't going to happen...the good ole boys and girls are going to look out for each other...as they do in Washington also....NO ONE IS going to make themselves responsible and accountable....as long as they can do whatever and get BY WITH DOING SO...they have it MADE......CORRUPTION AND COVER UP is EVERYWHERE......and it is GROWING....more and more each day...

  • heremeaj Jan 6, 3:54 p.m.

Great news, now he can be available to coach John Edwards on how to be a criminal and pay no price

  • Dirty_Water Jan 6, 3:52 p.m.

Easley entered an "Alford" plea. Those interested in furthering their understanding are encouraged to google this plea to understand the initial implementation (a NC case decided by SCOTUS). Quite a difference in Alford pleading guilty to avoid the gas chamber and Easley wanting to avoid admitting his guilt.

Y'all are smart enough to google Alford. And GOLO, please tell your spell checker that in 2012 google is a real verb and SCOTUS a widely accepted acronym.

  • tatermommy52 Jan 6, 3:46 p.m.

Poole, Easley, Mrs Easley, Phipps, Wright, Edwards, Ballance,Perdue, all got money from the NC Bar Association.

  • YippiYiyoKiYay Jan 6, 3:46 p.m.

Oh wow, that will show you Easy E! How will you make ends meet now? Boy, this powder puff legal system is a joke.

  • ttbs1031 Jan 6, 3:32 p.m.

  • storchheim Jan 6, 3:25 p.m.

awomn, YOU may be over Easley, but don't forget that Bev and others are watching to see what they can expect to get away with too. It's called "making an example" of someone, and this is absolutely pitiful.

  • Southern Girl Jan 6, 3:03 p.m.

    His legacy.

  • UNCfuturealumi Jan 6, 3:00 p.m.

I hope he can never practice law again. Smurk..see the guilt on his face

  • RomneyRyan2012 Jan 6, 2:52 p.m.

Hope he never gets his license back...

  • IAMAmerican Jan 6, 2:45 p.m.

Hopefully, it won't be long before Bev follows in his tracks, as she's done a great deal of wrongfuly actions while in office. Why has it reached the point that we can't trust any Democrat to do anything right? TIME FOR BIG CHANGE AT ALL LEVELS OF GOVT.
    nanasix

You can't trust any politicians, no matter what party they represent.

  • IAMAmerican Jan 6, 2:42 p.m.

A wittle slap on the wrist............figures!!!!! John Edwards will walk too!!!!!!

  • dmccall Jan 6, 2:40 p.m.

He should be in prison (much less disbarred for life)

  • Zaknow Jan 6, 2:39 p.m.

How many attorneys are just suspended after a felony conviction regardless of nonadmission of guilt? Disbarment is to good for this one!
