I grew up without central heating & air or any air conditioning of any kind(my dad still doesn't have it). I was subjected to that kind of cruel and unusual punishment as a child. Now that I'm an adult, I don't mind paying a little bit more every month to stay cool!

Try living in a 72 man tent in Qatar without A/C. By 0900 it's 130 degrees and 99% humidity. How come that didn't make the news?

Laaa deee daaahhh!!! There are lots of folks in this state who live everyday, every summer without air condition, lots of elderly sick folks. There are also dorm rooms at our prestigous state universities that are not air conditioned....yes, some kids stay all summer, so there's more folks who live without air conditioning.

How pretentious for these folks to be news worthy....shame on you, WRAL, and shame of these people for even agreeing to grant an interview.....what a total waste of news space!

There are plenty of folks in this country who do not have air-conditioning. And not by choice!

The windows my company sells will give you 40% energy consumption savings, or else we pay the difference. We guarantee it in writing. If you have single panes, the savings is likely to be even higher. I have talked to reps that have them, and it's like the heat/ac runs hardly at all. They are amazing. (Triple pane, kryton gas filled.) You have to see for yourself how much solar energy is transferred through glass, and how much of that in turn heats up a home. Our best glass package stops 99% of the heat energy that normally enters the home through the glass. Its a no-brainer if you can afford them. The energy savings and resale value allows them to pay for themselves. As far as the water heaters go, that is from research I did when my water heater went out. Electric heated tank water heaters are the most wasteful of all, whereas tankless gas are the most efficient of all. I just could not afford the conversion. Next water heater I will.

IfByWhiskey - I like your post but I have always wondered about one thing. My electric bill has never been then same from one month to the next. So you go out and buy all these energy saving device's -how does one really know if your saving anything.
