Let's just hope they don't run out of soap, water and deodorant on these hot days!!

RE:"likemenow - Have you ever wondered where all the anger we see on these forums directed at anyone who happens to be different or out of the mainstream, regardless of the actual topic being discussed, comes from?"...i have no idea and i really don't want to ever have any awareness of where that anger stems from...it's disturbing to say the least...."people, loving people".....not

RE:"but don't go on the news and on the radio for the whole "look at me, look what I'm doing" part of it"...why do you think this family called the press to promote their choice?......and RE:"the sooner people stop looking down their noses at other people, the better off we will be."....say this three times....."Hello pot, my name is kettle"

To each thier own. Me personally wouldn't mind having couple elves to fetch my beers from the fridge.

Yeah, I agree. I don't know why this is news. A LOT of people go without A/C, not by choice. I survived ten years in Austin without A/C but I had an old Emerson oscillating fan that was my best friend; still have it out in the garage-I'll never let the wife throw it out. People forget, I think, that what is considered the norm now, was quite different not that long ago.

JDPike, you are correct; you took the words out of my mouth. These people have chosen not to run the AC. But just because a friend is flying to a wedding? Sounds a little kooky to me. And then calling the press about it? They just want attention.

Does anyone else agree that the planet is already trashed and there is nothing we can do to stop it? The little we do now by recycling may delay it but thats all. Why does the Space program exist except to find a habitable planet somewhere else. It would be interesting to hear the viewpoint of the friend who they are suffering for. Going without the a.c. is not going to change anything. They'll only be a lot thinner, smellier and irritable. I praise God for air conditioning and I feel badly for those that don't. I sure hope I never have to live without it. I would have to migrate north.

slow day in the news today hah! I know alot of people that don't have A/C! Whooptie dew!

likemenow - I'm not looking down at these people, they're not using their air conditioner, thinks that it is making a difference, and yes, seem to be the same kind of hippie tree huggers who end up protesting many things that I enjoy. Why would the news even know about these people if they hadn't called them? There are plenty of people in this state who have no a/c at all, we aren't seeing stories on them. Usually this time of year you hear about all of the people who don't have a/c and are dying of heat strokes. This summer we haven't seen any of those stories. I would bet that either these people or friends of theirs called to let the news know about this story, the news guys don't just go house to house checking to see if someone is nuts enough not to be using an air conditioner setting in their back yard. Anger, I don't feel any anger, I am actually a very peaceful guy who enjoys fishing, hunting, and eating meat, when it isn't being protested by nuts like this.

Like I mentioned before, most student dorms still have no A/C. That's something to talk about...not this.

The son does not look very happy.

Agree w/ Gandolf - to each their own.....

likemenow....You know my kin folks! LOL..Best folks on earth!

RE:"likemenow....You know my kin folks! LOL..Best folks on earth!"..now ya see, i knew we were related...lol..

RE:"I am actually a very peaceful guy who enjoys fishing, hunting, and eating meat, when it isn't being protested by nuts like this."...me too....but until they start telling you and i not to do any of those things, i won't bash them for a personal choice either

likemenow.... Well hello cuz!!I do like u now...

Oh my gosh... what silly people! This should be in the entertainment section.

RE:"likemenow.... Well hello cuz!!I do like u now..."..anybody w/ Skynard for a name is a friend of mine..."FREE BIRD"

I don't think the children are suffering. Uncomfortable, yes. Some or most of us have gone a summer or two without A/C, and those that have know that you can survive it. Fans everywhere, a mist bottle. The nights are the worst though. I think the parents are setting a good example for the children. Anything that teaches children to be selfless is good in my opinion.

RE:but until they start telling you and i not to do any of those things, i won't bash them for a personal choice either - when you have people protesting fishing tourneys and protesting hunting and eating at KFC, that is pretty much their way to trying to tell me to stop doing it. I just don't get people like this.

P.S. I bet they aren't from around here, not many people from Carrboro are anymore. That used to be a good place to hunt, years ago, till they screwed up the environment around there. lol

likemenow::: Curtis Lowe (my fav)

Just take a private jet flight with Gore... That will offset any damage that anyone does to the planet.

definitely better to keep a/c on at 78 - 80 degrees all of the time. i work for a power company and that is what we recommend and it works, i've cut my power bill in half just by setting the 'stat to 78 and leaving it there. set it and forget it.

I'm sure someone already mentioned it... but don't they realize the plane is going to fly with or without them?

Also, wasn't their house built with wood that comes from cut down trees using large machinery that pollutes. Then heavy equipment had to be used to cut the wood. Also consider that the trees/wood had to be picked up/delivered. Not to mention their clothes were also made in a factory. I wonder what they drive...

I'm all for conservation, but in a rational kind of way.

c4sp3r - you are too funny...LOL

You just can't get more misguided that this.

I live in Carrboro, have a professional job,, and can affrod to run the AC at home and pay the power bill. The real reason these people inthe article don't run their AC is because they are "self-employed writers and environmentalists". They can't afford to pay their electric bill.

thewayitis

There is one phrase that people use a lot when they do not know what to say and that is "who cares". That is so dumb. I admit this is a stupid story because there are so many people who cannot afford a window unit. But I do care about these people a lot. Most of these people are the elderly.

RE:"Curtis Lowe"...sing me a song a song, Curtis Lowe, Curtis Lowe....love it...another beer?...lol.

RE:"when you have people protesting ..." when did this family in question do any of that?...come up to Chatham County....no, not northern but central, western parts....still lots of good land/hunting...Carrboro has been wacko for as long as i've been around

RE:"If you're going to reference me"...that took long enough...lol...my spelling isn't what it used to be

WHAT THE DEUCE!!!!!

likemenow...It's Friday I prefer Jack & Coke, please. Thanks buddy. Would you like for me to put on the complete box set for our listening pleasure?

RE:"I'm sure someone already mentioned it... but don't they realize the plane is going to fly with or without them?"...Now that one makes sense, is funny, yet still manages to make fun of them, albeit in a light-humored way...VERY funny point

I agree with so many people on here. Why is this news? How many of our less fortunate dont have a/c even now when it is hottest. Oh I forgot we are supposed to be shoving GLOBAL WARMING down everyones throat. Silly me.

Is the a/c on in here? It's getting hot.

RE:"likemenow...It's Friday I prefer Jack & Coke, please. Thanks buddy. Would you like for me to put on the complete box set for our listening pleasure?"...if you were a girl, i'd marry ya..got a good-looking sister by any chance?....that was hilarious

WARNING: WRAL's thought police are out in force today, geez.

skynard, serious question...what CD would have all those songs?..i'm getting it today, swear to ya

Better to go pantless the whole summer.

All I can say is: another typical Carrboro resident...

likemenow....Hello cuz!!!! I am a girl!!! You better lay off the beer for awhile....Can't girls like Jack & Coke???

Johnston County girl. Can't you tell.

"What a bunch of haters on this posting space! Why do any of you have anything bad to say about these people? Their actions have nothing--absolutely nothing--to do with any of you, nor do their actions negatively impact your lives."

---

Actually, in a small way, they're consuming less electricity during these record demand times which may help the stability of the grid for the rest of us.

We can debate the merits of them going without A/C on dangerously hot days or how inefficient it is to run the A/C to cool a 100 degree house all we want but they at least took a stand on the carbon offset issue and more importantly TRIED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Even in our cynical times, that ought to count for something because in my experience, most of the people who complain about something won't do anything to solve the problem or at least make a positive contribution.

Frankly, I'd rather have people as friends who have the courage of their convictions rather than the ones who don't.

Breaking News....Child ended up in ER over night from heat exhaustion. Family made the news last week because they suffered through the heat with no a/c and this week they're in the news because social services took their child out of the home after it was determined that they didn't provide suitable living arrangements for their child. Now that sounds like it would be worth getting national attention.

RE:"likemenow....Hello cuz!!!! I am a girl!!! You better lay off the beer for awhile....Can't girls like Jack & Coke???"....my bad....girls can certainly like Jack and Coke..and i like girls that like Jack and Coke..next round's on me...lol

skynard, serious question...what CD would have all those songs?..i'm getting it today, swear to ya....

It is their complete edition. It is in a green rectangle box. It is called "Lynyrd Skynyrd Greatest" complete box set. I've had mine for awhile and it costs $55. Any music store has it.

What have they published? Nothing was mentioned........if this isn't a publicity stunt (duh, its working) they missed a good chance. The 'ol "Misery loves company" trick! lol

RE:"Breaking News....Child ended up in ER over night from heat exhaustion"...not at all out of the realm of possibilities....good point

People move here because of all the rankings that say "great place to live". Not any more - we are so over populated -but if many people do as the couple in the story - the air will smell so bad that some may actually MOVE BACK TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM!

"Momma always said 'Stupid is as stupid does'"

They should move to San Francisco...
