As somebody who has grown up around pilots and aircraft, I am appalled that we keep all these aircraft sitting around waiting on the Governor. She makes trips that are wasteful and unjustifiable. She flew a Cessna Citation to Halifax County airport last year to announce the expansion of Reser's. For short hops, the King Air B200 they had would have been more efficient. For that matter, its at worst a 2 hour drive to Reser's. The drive to RDU and time to get flying probably took just as long and cost FAR more. These are the issues I have with some of the fleets utilization, or lack thereof.
We would be much better served to go with a model where we request a plane and only pay for the hours it is used. This would be a lot cheaper than paying for hanger space, pilots, maintenance, etc. for her to fly around a few hours a month. This is what many businesses do now to save money.
