I am interested in "cutting the cord too " .
Our main problem is CHOICE - we live outside of the 3 county triangle so the choices are limited , Our driveway is more than 300 feet from the main road which affects out ability to get faster DSL and cable at a reasonable cost . Years ago , Time Warner wanted over $5000 to run the cable to the house then additional $$ to install it - so we do not have cable .
We paid BIG BUCKS for a fancy antenna and installation that never did do well on most of local networks ( WRAL included) - then we lost even more channels when "free TV" went digital !LOL
We have Directv but afraid it will cost more for less now that AT&T owns it .
We recently tried downstreaming but so far it is not going well - lots of buffering - all internet activities ( including work ) have to stop when trying to downstream.
Thank Goodness for Netflix and Redbox - We can get TV shows and movies on disc

Ascherer, wow! I'm so sorry you had such a bad time with the kitties. Are you okay? There is a Neosporin with a pain reliever that I use often for my kitchen clumsiness accidents. It works pretty well for the less serious injuries.

Those pet bites and scratches really REALLY hurt! I had a blind Scottie rescue a while back that, for no apparent reason, decided to chew up my face on 3 separate occasions. Those injuries are no joke.

I'll be following the cable cutting as well. I hate how much we pay TWC every month.

Just to clarify. I did not go to 40 different CVS stores. I went into CVS stores a total of 40 times looking for those bars. Went to the Clayton store maybe 10 times. Evidently no one else that wanted these bars had problems getting them judging by the lack of comments saying such.

Faye, we'll be glad to share our research! You're so close to us, that I would imagine what works for us will work for you. I've asked DH to start thinking about putting his recommendations in writing for you. He said he'll be glad to help!

Nstutt - that was an odyssey! Glad you finally found the bars.

Thanks to all regarding your discussion on getting rid of cable and the specifics of the devises you are using. Stephanie, I will be contacting you in the next 6 weeks or so for some more details about your recommendations, if you don't mind. I'll be making the transition away from cable then and look forward to it! I'll be sure to blog about the process as well.

I forgot to add that the Jennie-O turkey breast is limit 2 and goes through tomorrow, Sunday.

  • busels2 Aug 15, 2015

In case anyone feels like getting ready for the holidays this early, Lowes Foods at Cole Park Plaza, Chapel Hill, has Jennie-O frozen turkey breast for $0.97 a pound.

RFB -- I'm saving *at least* $100/month, which seriously takes away the inconvenience of not having HGTV, AND makes retirement so much more enjoyable! We had gotten to the point that we often skipped from channel to channel to channel on satellite, with "nothing" on tv (with 250 channels to choose from). We sometimes say the same thing now, and then smile when we realize how much money we're saving.

Life is good when one's wants/needs are manageable. :-)
