Thanks for all your help. We need to make a decision soon so I can wash. I understand that the part that needs fixing will be $100.00 with labor and not wanting to put that much into an old machine. I'm with you Faye. Just want a reliable machine to do the job and no fancy stuff. All of our appliances are 14 - 23 years old so we have been holding our breath as to what we would have to replace first. It is so great to have people that care and will help in situations like this. Thanks again and keep the comments coming please.

Today at Kroger on Six Forks Rd, they have a cart of clearance items near the checkout. I got Pampers wipes travel pack (18-20ct) for 0.25 each.

Nanee Lion - I have a HE front load washer. I have had no problems getting clothes clean or finding detergent. However, I have a huge problem with the inner rubber belt always being wet and being discolored (not smelly just discolored). I will not buy a front load washer again.

Nanee Lion- I'm with Faye on how easy it is to find detergent. In fact, I'm able to use my favorite All Detergent that is often on sale. I've had a HE washer for the last few years (we bought them from my sister in law). I will say I wouldn't go that route again. The inner rubber belt is always damp, and you need to keep it open so it doesn't get moldy, etc. I never felt like my clothes were truly as clean, and this was a top of the line model. But, that's just my experience, and some of the newer models are likely better. I'm not sure all of them have this feature now, but if you go that route make sure you look for one with a sanitize cycle (you actually add bleach into it once a month and run a cycle). That really helps keep it cleaner.

Nanee Lion - I bought a Maytag Centennial HE washer a couple weeks ago from Lowes and have been very happy with it. I had a Lowes gift card which helped offset the cost, but it was still reasonably priced. It's not a top of the line washer, because I can't justify spending $1000 on something when the $400 model will do the same thing. It is very easy to use. It is a little loud at times, but it's not bad. It received very good online reviews from users as well. The model # is MEDC215EW. I tried to get the link to it on their website but the lowes website is down right now. I was a little hesitant about having to find HE dishwashing liquid, but I was happy to see that all the stuff I had at home was suitable for HE washers. Hope that helps. Send me an e-mail if you want more info. :-)

NANEE LION - My sympathies on your washer _ I am keeping everything crossed until I find my next machine . I have been on the "hunt" for over a year - mine is almost 23 years old and I am scared I will not find one I trust/ love as much as this one ever again ( 4 repairs in 23 years - total cost under $100 !).
The manager of an appliance store I have been purchasing items from for over 20 years told me to beware of the new HE washers . They will not clean as well as the old agitator models - they are designed to use less water so you MUST use GOOD quality detergent !
You must also use a name brand washer cleaner following the machine's recommendations .
Be sue to ask the manufacturer of the models many companies build machines for the same company name on the "outside" .
I will see what brands/models I can find info on and post them tonight or tomorrow if I get time and find useful info .

We have to buy a new washing machine after 17 years. I love my old appliances and they are all getting old, like me! I could really use some advice on what kind to look for with all these new models with the new stuff added to them. Please let me know what you have and if you like the features it has. I have read so many horror stories online about buying the new ones and then not liking it. I need a washer asap, so please HELP ME! Thanks.

Has anyone used the new Rite Aid program? I haven't been in there for a long time but needed some hair color (the best place to buy it... and yes, I've gone even darker, getting back to my roots lol!) But, when I went to sign up online to complete the registration, they want to give all my contact info (including address, phone, etc.) to their "partners." I say that in quotations because who the heck knows who that is, or if they sell the info. I opted out. Curious to see if anyone has benefited from it yet?
