Update on the HT super doubles list. I am still working on it and will be checking continuing sale prices tomorrow am and then posting the list tomorrow. :-)

Faye- lol! Yes, I'm not the biggest fan of Gwyneth. And I hadn't heard about that one. This challenge has us working directly with organizations to help raise money and awareness. I chose LitWorld to partner with. And thanks for the Aldi recommendation!

TJ84 - thank you for posting the swag code. I was out and about and did not see it, but hopefully other got it in time.

RFB - I am with raesmom - Aldi is a great option if you can only shop at one store. If you can shop at multiples store, you can just buy the best loss leaders. Good luck! Sounds like an interesting experience but not one I am willing to try with kids if I don't have to. :-) I read today that Gweneth Paltrow is doing a similar food stamp challenge. Seems to be the trendy thing to do for celebs who have no idea what a food budget is for regular people. A real challenge for her would be to live for 6 months on $80 per week for a family of four. Now that would be impressive. lol

jchance - that is so nice of you to offer the coupons to blog readers. Thank you!

Raesmom- wow, that is amazing! I went on their site, and it looks like they'd be perfect for this, and in the future :-)

One of my girl friends gave me about 60 coupon inserts. If anyone needs any coupons, for a specific product, let me know. I will be happy to send them to you. My email address is

No problem RFB!! I went last week and purchased a 10lb bag of potatoes for $1.99!!!! You can do a lot with potatoes. Again good luck with your challenge ;-)

Raesmom- thanks for the tip! I'm not familiar with Save a Lot, so I think I'll do a trip by there in the next few days :)

  • raesmom1612 Apr 12, 2015

Wow RFB that sounds like and extreme challenge, I commend you on that. I would say either save a lot or Aldi, you won't be getting brand named stuff, but the stuff you get is good quality and way cheaper than WalMart or food lion. Good luck!!!

Quick question for all you money-saving experts! I'm doing the Live Below the Line challenge on April 27, and am starting to prepare for it. So, if you had only $1.50 to spend on food each day for 5 days, which store would you shop at? I'm not using coupons, and only buying groceries from one store (because people around the world living in extreme poverty would not have access to these choices).

I'm thinking Walmart? Or Food Lion? I'm starting to make lists of things like rice, beans, cabbage, potatoes, bananas, eggs. Of course I'll check the sales that week, and that will help in making final shopping decision. But, thought I'd check here for any ideas to help me and encourage others who are taking this challenge!
