You should never, ever accept a payment over the amount you requested. If they ask you to send them back the overpayment this should be a warning sign. How often do you pay for something and not send the exact amount? Always hold onto the item for at least 10 full working days for a check. If it is from a bank you can call their 800 number and have them verify the bank check. Just words of caution for anyone selling anything online.

cents2save - that's an awful scam! I am glad your SIL realized what was happening before she lost money. Thanks for the heads up.

Since I do not have a Facebook account but I wanted to comment about the Secret Shopper & other scams where a person is directed to deposit a high-value check to their bank account, please be aware that the signature line on legitimate checks consists of micro-fine text. Yes, take a magnifying glass and see for yourself. My sister-in-law almost got taken by an out-of-state "buyer" who sent a large "Bank Check" to pay for a baby stroller & shipping costs & directed her to send back a personal check to cover the "overpayment". S-I-L would have lost twice as much. Don't be tempted.
