Hi Douglas! If you Google hdmi tv and then select images, you can see what it looks like on your tv.
For example this should bring up an image:

But does your DVD remote have a menu button? Usually that brings you to the time set up.

ThomasG and Observant -- thanks for your response :)

Our TV is about 8 or so years old. $35 would be perfect. Oh my gosh, the fancy remotes. WAY beyond my level of comprehension LOL.

I know our laptop has a slot for something, not sure what exactly, It would be great if we could hook it up to the TV. Is my TV too old to hook up an HDMI cord? How would I find that out?

    jdouglas13 & ThomasG -
My laptop plays Blu-Rays and it is almost 8 ( ?) years old ( maybe older )

JDOUGLAS13 - how old is your TV ?? Do you have cable or satellite ??
Most electronics that work "together" ( TV's and DVD players for example) have color-coded plugs so they are easy to hook up .
As for price - Walmart has one around $35 (?) .I would think most stores will be close to that for a "beginner" model- no need for a fancy one with the "college degree needed" remote . PS -- you may be able to play movies on your computer /laptop if it has the disc drive ( update your media player - whether windows or quicktime ?) . You can use a HDMI cord to hook the computer/laptop to the large TV if needed/desired.

OK, maybe I have an idea for DW, but I REALLY need help. We have never been able to watch movies on the TV because neither one of us can figure out how to set the clock on our 10 year old, never used, DVR/DVD/VCR thing.

Can someone suggest an idi@t-proof DVD player that we might actually be able to figure out and connect easily to the TV? It would really be nice to see some of the movies from the current decade occasionally! :p

Wow, I just saw what the date is. I've only gotten DW one lonely little Christmas gift so far. I am in so much trouble. I have no ideas at all of what to get her this year.
