Quick update on the Lowes Foods in Cary that is closing. There are certain sections of the store that are totally empty (i.e. soda, dairy, etc.), but they still have a decent amount (not a lot, mind you...) of the following products: frozen food items, baby food/baby diapers, etc., personal care items (including soaps, shampoos, etc.), medicine, paper goods, food bags (Ziploc, etc.) and wraps (foil, plastic wrap, etc.). The ice cream is still 40% off, but there's still some left of that as well.

There was hardly anyone in the store when I was there, but I'm guessing it's because most are waiting until Friday when everything drops to 40%.

I'm actually surprised that 40% will be their final markdown (they'll be closing for good on 9/14.) For some reason, I thought when the Food Lion up the street from me closed, their final markdowns were more than 40%. If I can find coupons (that will double up to $0.99) to go along with the 40% off, I can hopefully find some good deals.

Clinton, I saw something in the paper about that rebate, but the website listed in the ad didn't work. I was kind of set to go ahead and do this, but then read that the small print says you have to spend $30 AFTER all discounts, coupons, etc., have been applied. I'm not so sure now.

Thanks for everyone's help with the slow cooker. :)

I posted about Big Lots yesterday. I found out they do not accept manufacturer's coupons. However, you can take the ad to Walmart for a price match. Big Lots has 4-packs of Del Monte fruit cups for $1. There's a $1 off 2 coupon in the 8/25 RP so you can get 2 packs for $1.

HAPPY DANCE for you getting a slow cooker !!
You will love it no matter which one you get .

I have a westbend 6 qt. oblong slow cooker -the pot can be used on the stove top; the base can be used as a small grddle ; the glass lid is great serving dish .The shape and size makes it perfect for odd shaped objects - long roasts ,turkey breasts, racks of ribs, etc. It comes with a removable rack. The unit is not too heavy even when full for me to handle by myself.
The heat settings (0 to 5) are nice too - you can almost boil if you have it on the highest setting ( it will be hot enough for pancakes or fried eggs done on the griddle/base) .

RaleighFoodBlogger - I found the link to the Lowes Foods press release that includes when the markdowns are scheduled to take place (http://www.wral.com/lowes-foods-closing-two-triangle-stores-on-9-14/12781679/).

You were right about it being 40% (I have a TERRIBLE memory! LOL) but it does look like the next markdown is not scheduled until 9/6. They've chosen to do intermittant markdowns that aren't mentioned in their press release (like the ice cream), so who knows what they'll do between now and 9/6 - the employees said they didn't even know about the ice cream being marked down until they came into work that day. (The rest of us wouldn't have known about it either, if it hadn't been for you -thanks again for the heads-up on that!)

I think I'm going to stop by on the way home just to see what's left before ordering any coupons, anyway. I'm thinking that customers who aren't aware that there's another markdown coming may have already bought up the items I was going to order coupons

jdouglas, I have this 5-quart Crock Pot Smart Pot with removable stoneware.

It's a great size for meals for our family. It is large enough to double and triple batch chicken breasts or soup or cook a roast with potatoes, carrots, onions and mushrooms.

The stoneware is heavy, but sturdy. I have been very pleased with it. I have a smaller one that is great for sides and appetizers, but I almost always use the 5 quart.
