Seymour Johnson sergeant makes first appearance in fatal DWI wreck

Goldsboro police said Hector Soler, 47, of Goldsboro, turned himself in on Thursday night and was released Friday morning on a $75,000 secured bond.

Soler was originally charged with DWI, failure to reduce speed, civil revocation of driver's license and felony serious injury by vehicle in the Dec. 10 wreck on S. George Street near Carver Boulevard. Police said Soler crashed into a vehicle driven by Johny Robert Watson.

The charges were upgraded when the teenager, Watson, 17, of Seven Springs, died Thursday morning, according to authorities. A passenger in Watson's car was identified as Madison Grey Mooring, of Goldsboro.

Watson was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital with severe head injuries, police said, and he was later air lifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Soler initially told authorities Watson's vehicle was parked in the roadway with no lights on, but an investigation determined that was not true. Watson's Jeep was moving, and the vehicle's lights were on, police said.
