Sex offender arrested for violation, assault charges

A Sanford man was arrested Wednesday on assault charges and a sex offender violation, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

SANFORD, N.C. — A Sanford man was arrested Wednesday on assault charges and a sex offender violation, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Lewis Marvin Fulton, 29, of 1899 Nicholson Road, faces charges of failing to register as a sex offender, failing to comply with a court order and simple assault.

Fulton was being held in the Lee County Jail Thursday under a $51,000 secured bond.

In 2005, Fulton was convicted of taking indecent liberties with a minor, according to the North Carolina Sex Offenders' Registry.

State Department of Correction records show that Fulton has spent more than 7 years in prison since 2000. His convictions include two for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and one each for assault inflicting serious injury, common-law robbery and discharging a firearm into property.
