Sex offender arrested for having Facebook

Posted March 21, 2011

— Cumberland County sheriff's deputies arrested a registered sex offender Monday for having a Facebook account, which is a violation of sex offender status restrictions.

Richard Arnold Ferguson, 29, of 2702 Graham Road in Fayetteville, was being held at the Cumberland County jail under a $10,000 bond. He faces felony charges of disseminating material harmful to minors in addition to charges of maintaining a social networking site.

It wasn't clear whether the felony charges were new or were already pending when he was arrested Monday.

According to police, Ferguson said he accessed his Facebook account from a neighbor's house.

He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

So everyone else who enjoys Facebook and other social networking sites should have their site shut down because of perverts and the parents using computers and televisions as babysitters? Thats dumb! For those who have a healthy interest in keeping up with their friends there is no harm whatsoever. If you don't like facebook then dont have an account. Its just selfish to think that everyone else should be shut down because you don't like it. How about we just shut off telephones while we're at it? Perverts have used those to lure in children also. Where would the line be drawn?

Kids are exposed to Facebook everywhere. Parents.... don't just think that if you keep your kids off the computer, you will keep them off Facebook. Reality doesn't work like that. They are going to be exposed to Facebook or the like somewhere down the road. So talk, talk, and talk again with your children; about life and these problems that come up. Don't wait for their teachers, or the neighbors, or a 'cousin' to talk with them. You do it. It's your child.

I am glad this pervert was caught in the act. I heard they are going to do away with Facebook, well, the kids might hate it, but it might just be a good thing too. Facebook may have been sat up for all the right reasons; but you will always have the knuckle-heads to get an account.

That's why parents have to talk to their children (even the first graders) about who they talk to, what they say, on the computer. And it's not just Facebook, it's other accounts as well.
People just have heard of Facebook more than the other accounts that are not as popular. Parents still got to do their jobs too.
Warn the kids of people like this. And the cops when they come across a 'person' like this.
