Services planned for fallen Martin County deputy

The Martin County deputy killed in the line of duty will be honored Saturday in Williamston.

Charles “Charlie” Douglas Brown Jr., 38, died Tuesday after exchanging shots with a suspect at 1710 W. Main St. in Williamston, authorities said.

The suspect, Jerry Lee Pace Jr., 36, was also killed in the exchange.

Brown, a 15-year veteran of law enforcement, is survived by his wife, Cindy, and two daughters.

A funeral service was planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sen. Bob Martin Agricultural Center in Williamston. Rev. Jay Hardison from Maple Grove Christian Church will officiate.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Agricultural Center.
