Selma wreck knocks out power to some

A vehicle hit a power line on Buffalo Road, knocking out power to a couple hundred Progress Energy customers around Selma early Saturday.

SELMA, N.C. — A vehicle hit a power line on Buffalo Road outside Selma, knocking out power to a couple hundred Progress Energy customers early Saturday.

Johnston County emergency dispatchers said a vehicle overturned and struck a utility pole off the 6700 block of Buffalo Road shortly after 3:45 a.m. No one was injured.

Progress Energy brought in a crew to repair the power pole, dispatchers said.

The power company's Web site showed that power had been restored to all but about 50 customers by 6:30 a.m. Full restoration was expected by 10 a.m.

At the height of the outage, about 220 customers were without power.
