Security on the minds of Fayetteville police following Paris attacks

Police in Fayetteville say they are taking necessary precautions to make sure thousands of soldiers and their families are safe when traveling around the city.

Businessman Robert Lints said he feels good about the safety of the town.

"We are not concerned with the security downtown," he said. "We have a police station that is just down the street. It is a very, very safe environment."

Police officers said they use a network of more than 80 security cameras to monitor intersections, major roads and high-profile shopping centers across Fayetteville.

"Because of our proximity to Fort Bragg, we always have a hyper level of vigilance just to maintain our eyes and ears," said James Nolett with the Fayetteville Police Department.

According to police, the cameras help identify suspected criminals. But officers also ask the public to remain vigilant.

"Obviously, there is only about 400 of us, but there are 200,000 citizens," Nolett said. "We ask that the citizens...if they see something suspicious, that they report it."
