RALEIGH, N.C. — A section of Hillsborough Street will be closed to traffic through Jan. 5 to allow crews to install new sewer lines for a student apartment and retail project under construction near the North Carolina State University campus, officials said Thursday.

The street will be closed between Brooks Avenue and Concord Street. A signed detour in place will have drivers using Brooks Avenue, Wade Avenue and Faircloth Street.

To access businesses in the work zone, people can use Shepherd Street and Daisy Street on the north side of Hillsborough Street.

Construction of the five-story Stanhope Center apartment and retail building is expected to be finished in the summer of 2015.

The sewer line work was scheduled while N.C. State is on its winter break to lessen the impact on local traffic, officials said.
