DURHAM, N.C. — Two weeks after two Yorkshire terriers were taken from Karen Jenkins' Durham home in a burglary, the second dog has been found.

Jenkins said Wednesday that a woman called her Tuesday night to say that she might have 7-year-old Chaddy. The woman said she had bought a Yorkie in Durham a week ago for $1,000 and that it looked like the one depicted in news stories about the stolen dogs.

"She did the right thing," Jenkins said. "She didn’t have to call. All she wanted was the money she paid for the dog, and I gave that back to her and then some."

The woman told Jenkins she thinks the people who sold Chaddy to her tried to sell her Promise as well. When she returned the dog to Jenkins, police investigators were there for the reunion so they could question her and get a description of the people who sold her the dog, as well as a description of their car.

"I never thought I would see him. I never thought I would. I can’t believe it," Jenkins said. "I’m still living in fear. I just live in fear thinking someone will steal them again."

She’s already installed a new home security system, she said.
