FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A woman reported to Fayetteville police that she was raped early Sunday in the Pamalee Drive area, police said Tuesday.

The woman was the second to report being raped in the city on Sunday. Police said Monday that a 21-year-old woman said she was raped in the area of East Mountain Drive and South Eastern Boulevard.

Both women provided only vague descriptions of their alleged assailants, but investigators said they have no reason to believe the cases are linked to a series of rapes in the Fayetteville area between June and early January.

Six women in Fayetteville and one in Hope Mills have reported being sexually assaulted since late June. In each case, the victim said a man broke into her home – usually an apartment – late at night while she was alone, according to police reports. In an eighth case, a burglar tried to sexually assault a Fayetteville woman before fleeing.

A law enforcement task force assembled to investigate the cases, as well as other sexual assaults in nearby jurisdictions, recently released a composite sketch of a man they believe is linked to the string of rapes.
