RALEIGH, N.C. — Hours after he and friends were held facedown at gunpoint, country singer and North Carolina State University student Scotty McCreery told his half-million Twitter followers, "The RPD is on the case."

McCreery was visiting friends early Monday when three men broke into their Raleigh apartment and held up the people inside.

Police said the incident happened just before 2 a.m. when three men with guns forced their way inside the apartment at 2130-301 Wolftech Lane. Three people, including McCreery, were in the living room, and the robbers forced them to lie facedown at gunpoint.

The men made off with wallets, cellphones and a computer.

A resident of the apartment called 911 from the bedroom. "We got robbed," he told dispatchers. "They are all freaked out."

McCreery's mother told WRAL News that he was safe at home in Garner Monday afternoon, but the family declined an opportunity to speak further about the crime.

"A huge thank you to the Raleigh PD for their quick response and hard work in solving this case," McCreery tweeted.

Police did not have a good description of the culprits or any idea if the apartment had been specifically targeted.
