Scott Crawford's newest restaurant opens Friday in Clayton

Crawford said Crawford Cookshop is more casual than his two other restaurants, Crawford & Son and Jolie. The menu will feature "Americana" style comfort food like fried chicken, a crispy catfish sandwich, chicken and duck wings and more.

Other stars on the menu include "snacks" like pimento cheese on brioche toast or house-made pork rinds with caramelized onion dip and spicy boiled peanut hummus and appetizers like grilled oysters with chorizo butter and sourdough crumbs, saucy pork ribs and beef tartare with potato chips. Sides include mushroom bread pudding and smoked potato puree, among other items.

Crawford Cookshop features a large patio area which can seat 40 people and indoor dining for 76. The minimalist, gray building also features a U-shaped bar and garage doors that will open onto the covered patio and fireplace during warmer months.

“Crawford Cookshop is the silver lining that came out of pandemic; we’re excited to now have a home for the comfort foods we love cooking and eating, in a setting that’s ideal for families and groups to enjoy weekly, in the heart of this charming Clayton community,” explained Scott Crawford.

A large variety of main courses include salads, house-ground and wood-fired burgers, wood roasted trout, roast chicken, venison meatloaf and grilled Brasstown Ribeye. Weekly specials – Crawford’s fried chicken on Thursdays and smoked prime rib on Fridays – will begin in the new year.

Dessert items include chocolate buttermilk pie, warm bread pudding with salted caramel ice cream and soft serve ice cream sundaes with candied peanuts, macadamia crumble and maple-bourbon sauce.

Crawford Cookshop does not take reservations, although large parties can call ahead to ask about seating availability. Crawford Cookshop is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. It will be closed Mondays and Sundays.

In 2022, Crawford Cookshop plans to offer lunch and a weekend brunch. Online ordering will also begin in the new year, and delivery will be offered within a 20-mile radius.
