World's Largest Dinosaurs at NC Museum of Natural Sciences

I laughed out loud when I read the introduction to this event at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences this week.

Attention parents of dinosaur-loving kids: "Parents, have you ever been stumped by a child’s innocent question about dinosaurs or the science of paleontology? You need help! Dinos for Dummies is an introductory-level class for adults with children who are entering that phase of their lives when they are obsessed with all things dinosaurian."

Dino for Dummies is 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the museum's Nature Research Center in downtown Raleigh. Participants must be at least 18 years old. The cost is $10. Registration is open on the museum's website, but it closes at 5 p.m., Wednesday (that's tonight).

This sounds like a fun date night or moms' night out. You could even have dinner at the museum's restaurant.

The class is co-taught by Dr. Paul D. Brinkman and Khai Button, who are in the museum’s Paleontology and Geology Research Lab. You'll learn what is and what is not a dinosaur; basic taxonomy of dinosaurs; how to pronounce difficult dinosaur names, which will be handy for all of that dinosaur picture book reading; and the rudiments of modern dinosaur paleontology.
