— A Gray's Creek High School janitor has been charged with inappropriately touching a student, authorities said Thursday.

Dennis Simmons, 49, of 4447 Wellington Drive in Fayetteville, gave the 15-year-old student a ride home after a basketball game last Saturday, and the girl told authorities he fondled her and asked her to engage in a sexual act with him.

Simmons is charged with kidnapping and taking indecent liberties with a minor. He was being held Thursday in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.

Cumberland County Schools spokeswoman Wanda McPhaul said Simmons has been suspended with pay, pending the results of an investigation by the Gray's Creek High principal.

Why would making it up be your first thought? What you just said is why many sex crimes go unreported and, therefore, unpunished.

If this child is making this stuff up , she should be charged. If not, I hope they throw the key away.
