School days to get longer for Nash-Rocky Mount students

Posted March 23, 2014

— Students attending Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools will start Monday having longer school days to make up for the days lost to winter weather.

Each school day will be extended by 30 minutes every day until May 23 with the exception of Monday, April 21.

School system officials say they considered Saturday make-up days, extending the school year and eliminating spring break but opted on the extended school day for various reasons.

The school system outlined the changes to parents in a letter on March 10.

If the state would do this from the start of the year, snow days would be covered before they happen. If they didn't happen, no harm done.

I (and many others!) have been saying this for years, but hey, what do we know?
