The Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety in South Carolina has developed a special test to study damage from hail storms. Specially built hail cannons fire nearly 10,000 custom-made hail stones between 1 and 2 inches in diameter at a model home.

The damage helps the institute develop engineering tips for building a stronger and safer home.
