SC insurance institute tests power of hail storms

Richburg, S.C. — The Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety in Richburg, S.C., has developed a special test to study damage from hail storms.

They built special hail cannons to fire nearly 10,000 custom-made hail stones between 1 and 2 inches in diameter at a model home.

The damage helps the institute develop engineering tips for building a stronger and safer home.
