— The State Bureau of Investigation and the Lumberton Police Department are investigating two deaths after the bodies of two women were found Tuesday decomposing at different homes.

Around 9:30 a.m., officers responded to a residence at 505 Peachtree St. to a report of a suspicious odor. The officers found one woman's body inside.

While authorities processed the scene, a second body was found at 702 East 5th St.

Police said the women's bodies were found in various states of decomposition. They were both taken to the North Carolina Medical Examiner's Office for autopsies.

Authorities did not know the cause of either woman's death due to the condition of the bodies.

Neither woman has been identified.

It is unclear if the deaths are related.

That is a rather unsettling story. Not much information, and just awful to think of some poor womans body being found in a trash can. Hopefully the authorities can find out who they are and what happened to them.
