SNOW HILL, N.C. — The State Bureau of Investigation ruled that an off-duty Stantonsburg police officer was justified in using deadly force when a man broke into his ex-girlfriend's house in July.

Investigators said that Officer Rodney Williams used his service revolver to shoot and kill Michael Honey, 32, after he forced his way into his ex-girlfriend's house in Snow Hill close to midnight on July 17, 2008. Williams was in the house when Honey entered it.

After the shooting, Williams was placed on paid administrative leave and the Greene County Sheriff's Office called in the SBI to investigate. Both measures follow standard procedure for officer-involved shootings in North Carolina.
