RALEIGH, N.C. — Data-mining software giant SAS Institute plans to provide technological assistance to the Wake County school system in its annual student reassignment process, officials said Thursday.

SAS offered some of its software packages to the school district free of charge, and district officials said they would use the programs along with the tools used in the past to work out reassignments across the county.
