— Sanford police are searching for a Southern Lee High School student missing for nearly a week.

Crystal Cherry, 16, was last seen around 8 p.m. Friday at her home on Courtland Drive. When her mother went to check on her about three hours later, the teen was gone along with some of her belongings.

Family member said the teen had never done anything like this before.

Police say they have not issued an Amber Alert because there were no signs of foul play.

Unfortunately, too many teens thing the grass looks greener on the other side. Their lack of maturity, lack of fear and/or sense that they shouldn't have to be honor their parents or be responsible around the home or school cause them to make bad decisions. Add negative peer pressure and you have problem.
It's my opinion that law inforcement should make some effort to find a runaway teen. However, the kids can be very skillful at not being found. And in the end they HAVE to bear some responsibility for their actions. Sometimes it's the only way they will learn.

Having said that - IF this child is running away from an abusive or difficulty environment - that's a different story. Then she needs all the help the authorities can provide.

I hope she is found safe and everything works out for her and her family.

BE SENSIBLE WHEN MAKING COMMENTS. YOUR COMMENT IS NOT FUNNY AT ALL. A YOUNG GIRL IS MISSING. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF IT WAS YOUR DAUGHTER, NEICE, OR COUSIN? REALLY, WHY AREN'T YOU SAYING ANYTHING NOW? ALL TALK AS USUAL.

Growing up too fast can sometime cost you your life. See it all the time. Praying that 2012 will be a good year and not so many missing young ladies.

If youngun just knew how dangerous runaway life is, then maybe they would think twice about it.

Thanks and this was worth repeating. Many young people DON't think. Just continue to pray for this young lady that she be found alive or other wise. Pray for all young people.

How many of you really talk to your teenagers or do you just take them for granted until something like this happens? Things just don't happen, there is a very good reason behind all of this. The mother needs to start talking asap and tell the TRUTH.

and law enforcement shouldn't be expected to waste time looking for her.

I disagree with you. They should do everything to find this young 16 year old even if its just a body. Her mother has that right in just knowing the actual truth of her leaving home like she did and telling no one.

I hope she just went to an Aunts house and her cousins are not talking yet

Not true at all. If she was around certain family members, the police as well as her mother would know by now. Wouldn't you think? Of course you are not thinking.
