— A Sanford teenager faces charges that he repeatedly sexually abused a child under age 10 for more than four years, police said Thursday.

Akri Jibri Clegg, 19, of 1412 Hudson Ave., faces charges of first-degree sex offense with a child under age 13, attempted first-degree rape and indecent liberties with a child.

Police said the alleged abuse started in January 2007, when Clegg was 16 and the victim age 5, and continued through June of this year.

Someone unrelated to Clegg or the victim notified authorities, police said.

Clegg was placed in the Lee County jail under a $100,000 secured bond and scheduled to appear in court Sept. 11.

At this age and for it to be happening over such a long period of time the suspect it seems was being abused also. So why wasn't his abuser arrested also. I hope both kids get the help they need.

You need to tone it down a bit, hon. I never said it was okay to touch children inappropriately. I was simply pointing the error made by one poster in their haste to accuse this guy of rape. Also, he's innocent until proven guilty, so why don't you just cool it with your accusations, k?

Repeated sexual abuse versus Repeated rape? Yeah, that makes it all better.

    Split hairs much?

"Someone unrelated to Clegg or the victim notified authorities, police said." Why didn't relatives notice anything ???

This is absolutely disgusting. This guy is now 19 and a sick human being.

Huh? So the fact that the child wasn't raped repeatedly makes it OK with you? WHAT???? It doesn't matter how many times the child was raped, he had absolutely NO business WHATSOEVER touching the kid. POINT.BLANK! Not for nothing but the FIRST paragraph CLEARLY states "A Sanford teenager faces charges that he repeatedly sexually abused a child under age 10 for more than four years, police said Thursday." Also, you TOTALLY missed the TWO OTHER charges thrown in there. Reading comprehension that....

This guy needed to hook up with the woman from New Jersey caught in Moore county they both should share the same cell.

  • NCStatePack Jul 14, 2011

Reading comprehension folks.... She wasn't raped repeatedly. The article says "attempted rape" and the rest of the years are indecent liberties.

    'get their sick kicks elsewhere?...SueInNC

Maybe they need to get their sick self to a real doctor...you think? Not elsewhere, where they can hurt someone else.
I'm just glad that 'someone' finally told on him.

People like this find ways and times that they can slip off with these children. They don't have to be in a house alone with them. The parents can be right in the next room; and they still find a way to molest these children. Forcing them to keep silent. (And sometimes the parents force them to keep silent, because they do not want to go though the scandal of a trial.) I know of a case like that.

The headline though technically correct, gives the wrong inpression. He may be in his teens, but at 19, he is an adult and will be punished as such.
