SANFORD, N.C. — A Sanford teenager faces charges that he repeatedly sexually abused a child under age 10 for more than four years, police said Thursday.

Akri Jibri Clegg, 19, of 1412 Hudson Ave., faces charges of first-degree sex offense with a child under age 13, attempted first-degree rape and indecent liberties with a child.

Police said the alleged abuse started in January 2007, when Clegg was 16 and the victim age 5, and continued through June of this year.

Someone unrelated to Clegg or the victim notified authorities, police said.

Clegg was placed in the Lee County jail under a $100,000 secured bond and scheduled to appear in court Sept. 11.
