Sanford police are investigating the shooting death of a man early Sunday morning.

Officers responding to a report of gunshots at 1106-H Juniper Drive in West Rose Village apartments found Michael Nakia Petty Jr., 20, of 403 Judd St. in the doorway of the apartment.

He was taken to Central Carolina Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have identified Travis Derelle Bellamy, 22, of 1106 Juniper Drive, as a suspect, but they have not said what charges, if any, he might face.

Thank you for casting your judgement on a story that is barely a paragraph. Have you thought that it possibly could have been in self defense? Good guys have to carry loaded guns to protect themselves from the bad guys who are going to have them regardless if they have "business" doing so. I have always had a loaded gun in my house. Is it sad that a man lost his life? Of course. But let's not chunk the other guy under the bus so quickly. There is more to this story. Call me when you are elected judge. noodalia

Good guess. Thats why no more of the story has been reported. It was self defense. Castle Law in full effect.

Another sad story where a young man had a loaded gun in his possession. He had no business having a loaded gun. May the killer get life in prison for this murder. My condolences to the family and friends in your loss. Continue to hold on to God's unchanging hands and He will see you through this difficult time. All of you are in my prayers.
