Sanford man charged in robbery spree

— Police said Monday that a Sanford man has been charged in two recent robberies in Apex and is a suspect in robberies from Sanford to Butner.

Daniel Wayne Callis, 53, of 322 N. Gulf St., Unit B, was arrested Saturday in Emporia, Va.,

Callis has been charged in the Nov. 28 armed robbery of a Subway restaurant on East Williams Street in Apex and the Dec. 8 holdup of an ABC liquor store, also on East Williams Street, police said.

Charges are pending against him in the Dec. 2 robbery of the Tobacco Road Outlet on Bragg Street in Sanford and the Dec. 13 robbery of the Smoker Friendly store on N.C. Highway 56 in Butner, police said. He also is a suspect in a Durham robbery.
