Sanford husband charged after wife found with more than 30 cuts

A Sanford man was arrested after his wife was found with more than 30 cuts to her head, face, arms and hands, the Lee County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.

SANFORD, N.C. — A Sanford man was arrested after his wife was found with more than 30 cuts to her head, face, arms and hands, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

John Gary Harris, 41, of the first block of Johnson Cemetery Road, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and assault inflicting serious injury in the presence of a minor.

Deputies said a child called 911 Wednesday evening and told dispatchers that her mother was being attacked. Deputies arrived at the home and found the woman bleeding from her wounds. She was taken to Central Carolina Hospital for treatment.

Deputies said they arrested Harris after he was discharged from the same hospital for self-inflicted wounds to his wrists. He was held without bond.
