N.C. — A Sanford husband and wife who operated an unregistered day care out of their home were sentenced Thursday in federal court after pleading guilty in 2014 to child pornography charges.

Bailey Joe Mills, 34, was ordered to serve 45 years in prison followed by a lifetime of probation, according to U.S. Attorney Thomas G. Walker. Elizabeth Mills, 35, received 16 years followed by 10 years of probation.

Both are required to register as sex offenders.

Bailey Joe Mills was charged in 2014 with manufacturing child pornography after an investigation that began into the sexual abuse of a teenage girl. Detectives determined Mills sexually abused at least 10 other minors and paid several of his victims to have sex with himself and other men.

Investigators seized computers, cellphones and other devices from the couple’s home, and they found photos and videos of minors engaged in sex acts. The images were produced by Bailey Joe Mills with the assistance of his wife, Walker said.

Bailey Joe Mills was convicted in 1997 on a charge of taking indecent liberties with a child. He was also convicted in 2000 for indecent liberties with a child, was required to register as a sex offender, receive psychological treatment and not be around children under 13.

His name expired from the registry in 2006.
