SPIVEYS CORNER — Three men were injured early Saturday in Sampson County when the car they were in ran off the road, hit a ditch and overturned, investigators with the state Highway Patrol said. All three men were ejected from the car.

The wreck happened around 3 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 13 and Taylors Chapel Road, near the Spiveys Corner community, authorities said.

Justin Reid Strickland, of Dunn, William Andrew McPhail, of Autryville, and Brian Lee Thomas Scholl, of Godwin, were in critical condition at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center on Saturday, according to state Highway Patrol investigators. All three men are in their mid-20s.

Troopers are still investigating what caused the wreck, but said speed was a factor.
