Sampson County toddler killed in Christmas Eve crash

Posted December 29, 2010

— Alcohol and reckless driving were blamed for a single-car crash that killed a 2-year-old on Christmas Eve, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Ebony Setera Andrews, 28, of 1180 McCoy Loop Road in Sampson County, lost control of her vehicle as she drove with her two sons in the car.

Jamir Taylor, 2, was thrown from the car and died, according to the trooper who investigated the wreck.

His brother, Treshaun Maurice Taylor, and mother were taken to New Hanover Regional Hospital. Treshaun was released from the hospital on Christmas Day.

According to the wreck report, alcohol and reckless driving contributed to the crash, and neither child was wearing a seatbelt. Authorities were waiting for Andrews to get out of the hospital to file charges.

I am disappointed that alcohol is not more closely regulated, eventhough I HATE the governments inteference into peoples personal lives, but alcohol is a product that when abused seems to give people a great deal of overconficence, they seem to think themselves to be invincible and somewhat superhuman.
This poor mother will go one of two ways now, sober and half crazy, or fall deeper into her addiction to ease her pain. She could use a lot more prayers right now than she's receiving ridicule. I have a member of my family who one hot July day became annoyed with her three, and leaving a convenience store in a huff she'd placed a package on the right front seat and she didn't close the door of the car. As she drove backward and turned the car wheel to the left the door came open and she drove over her toddler daughter. She says today that not a night goes by that she doesn't spend trying to close the car door. Anybody can close a door she says. This poor mom will pay enough,so let

She should certainly be charged. She should have never been drinking and should have put her children first; but did not. Drinking was more important. Now she knows that drinking kills, taking hers sons life because of her behaviour.

THESE ADULTS PUT THEIR NEEDS FIRST AND NEVER THOUGHT OF THE CHILD IN THE FIRST PLACE. IF THEY HAD, THEY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DRINKING WITH A CHILD PRESENT AND ONE THEY HAD TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR. MAY THIS BE ON THEIR SHOULDER FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIFE.

Will we the drinkers ever learn before its too late?

Raising taxes on cigarettes and any other smokes....the concern should be on drinking while driving called DUI. But no one really becomes concern until its their love one that has lost their life because of someone drinking while driving. When are people really going to get this picture before its too late. It could be your love one next. You never know.

It's very upsetting and sad that this child couldn't live his life, however, he could be better off now...who knows.

    Condolences to the family.

Some people just make me sick. If you are going to drink, then don't drive! I lost one of my friends to drinking and driving, and if he were here I know he would have done anything to not get in that car. It isn't fair that a TWO YEAR OLD had to die over something so careless!

She should be charged for more that vehicular manslaughter, she had blatant disregard for these children and she should be charged with everything that the DA can come up with..Forget probation she should spend the rest of her life in prison..

RIP Jamir Taylor..your in Gods hands now..
