NEW BERN, N.C. — A South Carolina man was sentenced Friday to more than 20 years in prison for his role in a Raleigh bank robbery last summer, authorities said.

David Jenkins, 43, of Latta, S.C., pleaded guilty in November to aiding and abetting armed bank robbery and aiding and abetting the use of a firearm in a crime of violence. He was sentenced to 246 months in prison and five years on supervised release.

Jenkins and another man stole $7,400 from a SunTrust Bank branch at 5135 New Hope Road on July 2, and they led Raleigh police on a chase on and off Interstate 440 and Capital Boulevard before jumping out of the vehicle at the intersection of Capital Boulevard and Yonkers Road.

Prosecutors said Jenkins fired several shots at police during the chase.
