I remember when a presidential candidate made a statement about how we can lower gas prices by properly inflating tires in all automobiles. He was laughed at and mocked for making such a stupid, idiotic statement. "Air isn't going to fix gas prices, you dummy, drilling will!" How much trash does your family generate?

As I was taking out the trash before coming to work this morning, I got to thinking about this. How much trash is normal for a family to generate in a week? There are several houses in my neighborhood whose trash bins are always overflowing on trash day. No, I don't inspect everyone's trash cans, but it's pretty hard to miss when the rolly-dumpster thing's lid is impossible to close and there is a mountain beside the thing as well. So here are my questions...

the switch to cfls

The switch to CFLs. We made this switch at home and all bulbs, minus the couple of halogens, are now CFLs. Not only do we notice the difference in the electric bill, but now that the heat of the summer has hit we notice a difference in the amount of heat these bulbs put off (or lack there of). Now some say they are hazardous because of the mercury. Please read the following information from the EPA.
