I truly believe he couldn't have done it without us! This picture is him and his friend at the top of Mt. Everest after the long 9 hour summit. He reached the top at 4:45 AM! They stayed up there until sunrise and then headed back down. Thank you again!

Chip made it to the summit

As you have heard by now, Chip made it to the summit on Thursday and is now coming down Mt. Everest! Before Chip made it to the summit, we had a video conference with him. It was very cool because we were talking to a man climbing Mt. Everest. The signal for the video dropped, but when we got back in touch with him, (about five to ten minutes later), his hands were freezing to his laptop and he also had to go eat dinner. He said that the hardest part about Mt. Everest was the mental part, (climbing it is also hard, but not as challenging as the mental part). When Chip gets back from Everest he will be coming to our school for an assembly.

We know what Chip is going through....

This past Friday my science class did an experiment to see how it would feel acclimatizing to a new altitude level. First,my class was split up into two groups and both had to climb up three stair levels. One group would just climb up the steps normally and the other would have to climb breathing through a straw and holding their noses. As you should know Chip had to acclimatize to the thin air on Everest before he could summit(which he did!!!)

The Journey There

Chip started off at our school in a two hour assembly. When he would speak about climbing he would say, "If we are fortunate enough"... Yet, I think everyone had faith in him. Going there he spent around two months getting his body used to temperatures and giving our school scientific data. He has really seen some amazing stuff, like rainbows, and museums. Although this has made it all of the experience- he came there for something else as well. 2 months of training, for one lucky night. All this hard work played a role, because Chip MADE IT!!!

success!

I know this was already posted by Patrick, but I simply couldn't overcome the urge to do it again. Chip has made it to the SUMMIT!!! After months and months of preparations and climbing, Chip and his friend, Vance, finally reached their destination last night. They climbed down as far as their weary bodies would take them, hopefully at Camp 2 or lower, and collapsed into an exhausted but triumphant sleep. Even as you read this, they're heading back down. Since Chip is probably completely worn out, he hasn't been able to post anything yet, though you can be sure that when he does, you'll hear about it. Thank you for reading and a million congratulations to Chip!

How Do You Like That!!

For all you skeptics that said Chip was a great guy for doing this mission but he would never make the summit, He did it!!!!! Chip summited yesterday night, and with it successfully wrapped up our journey. I can't believe this. The other people will probably be writing the same thing, but I thought this was too good not to blog about. Tell me how you feel- Patrick

to the summit!

Exciting news- we just talked to Chip! Through a webcam, we saw Chip and Jamling, Chip's sherpa, at Base Camp on the other side of the world! Chip gave us a tour of the camp, and Jamling looked thrilled to meet us (the picture at the right is him!). Both look extremely well, with only minor coughs. Today, Chip and crew are resting at Camp 2. They'll move to Camp 3 tomorrow, and, if the weather permits, move to Camp 4, and between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. they'll leave for the summit, hoping to return by early morning the next day. Let's all wish him good luck! Go Chip! Thank you for reading and keep coming back for more updates!

Applying Chip's Climbing Adventures in Keyboarding

In keyboarding class we have been keeping up with Chip’s climb to the top of Mount Everest. We have applied what we have learned about Chip’s experience, about his climb, and how we feel about Martin going to Everest. One way that we integrated this learning experience in to our keyboarding class is by practicing typing our thoughts, opinions and questions in the different paragraph formats that we learned in class.

windows

Chip and his friend and climbing partner Vance decided to sleep up at Camp 3 in order to acclimatize. They awoke the next morning with Christmas in the air (figuratively, not literally!). The new snow had covered Everest like a fresh white blanket. Unfortunately, the winds then picked up significantly, forcing all teams to turn back from their climb towards Camp 3 and head back to Camp 2. The next day the weather improved, and Chip and Vance are back at Base Camp. They will then get 5-7 days of rest before setting out for a summit attempt. May the window of opportunity come and shine upon them! Thank you for reading and keep coming back for more updates!
