Underexposed
Here you’ll find the thoughts and ramblings of the TV News Photographer. Meet the slightly tilted people who face hurricanes, mobs, dangerous suspects and all manner of ill attitudes to bring you incredible video. They are also the people who touch your heart, make you smile and take you fascinating places through the glass on their lens.
On The Road Again
Chief Photographer
There’s nothing like being on the road… and no one better to be on the road with than Mark Roberts and his Road Crew!
(Mark Roberts in Youngsville on the phone gathering traffic information)
The “Road Show” is traffic reporter Mark Roberts’ way of getting out and meeting people. We take the camera and lights to a down-home breakfast spot and Mark reports live from the scene… “gridlock and grits” as he calls it.
From a photographer’s viewpoint, this is a lot of fun. Mark is a riot and people love to come out to meet him. That hospitality spills over into our world and we (the photographers) get to meet a lot of people as well. (We also get to tell our inside stories of Mark and his antics for his fans amusement.)
(The camera rests on a table awaiting the next live report)
Technically, this is a tough gig, we’re trying to run cables and set-up lights in a crowded restaurant. We’re running 2 mics and operating the live truck all by ourselves. Keeping up with the technical end of things is a full time job… but we still manage to clown around with Mark and his fans.
The great thing about the “Road Show” gig is after you’re off the air at 8am, and clean up the gear, you usually get a pretty decent breakfast and begin your weekend by the time your coworkers are just starting their day!
